Re: Gutting Doors in eg

Its somthing i want to look at aswell, is putting a proper fuel cell in.

I am just in the deciding point as to whether i want to keep the car road legal, or if i want to turn it into a fully fledged race car. Or maybe still be wof'd but have to change parts over for road use etc, bit of a pain, but means the car is a multi tasker then and also keeps re-sale a fair bit higher.

The lexan isnt a heap lighter but its way easier to mount in as you can screw/glue it in thus you can cut heaps more of your inner doors out as you dont need all the extra strength to hold the glass in place. I have a type r db8 that im builing up for the track at the moment and i put lexan in all the doors except for the drivers and im not sure on the weight difference but id say its quite a bit just by opening and closing the door seems a huge difference. But i left the intrusion bars in as i wanted to retain a bit of strength in the doors. (all the better for rubbing with!!)

Has anyone weighed an intrusion bar after cutting it out?

Re: Gutting Doors in eg

Its actually not better for "rubbing with". Reason is that when you rub up with another car and you have them in, the outer door skin wraps itself around the intrusion bar and it becomes very hard to push it back out. However with no bars you can just open the door, and give it a good boot and then door will pop out.

Example below from when i got T-boned at 4hr endro. Not a very good pic, but if you look along my logo's eyebrow line you can see the door wrapped around the bar.

Ooooooo my first race. Kinda jumped in the deep end. Had an Altezza out brake himself and shoot across the grass and t-bone me as i was going through a corner, when he suddenly came out of no where across the grass.
