Re: Couple of questions, b20, blox

when dealing with stock pistons and rings, a few people told me not to hone the bores. Just measure them up and get them checked. If all is good then don't hone.

As andrew said, you would spend HEAPS getting the K running, mounts, car setup, wiring, ECU, tuning,.

K would get a good result tho (big power)

Green machine is going down the cheaper, easier route it seems. Will be faster than the B18CR too

Bingo, I thought about the K swap but then again your spending 10k+ on a stock engine that really isnt making all that much more power. Sure you have a good base but you also have a motor that doesnt sit in stock position and if bits break there are little 2nd hand spares, Ie 1200 for b gear box compared to how much for a K one.
And was thinking like coupe-r said about the bores. If they check out fine then not much need to hone them as I want to keep it as close to 84mms as possible so the amount of play is reduced. Will def get them looked at and measured by someone in the know though.

While we're on the subject, what are good recommended piston-to-wall clearances?

I've got PR3 pistons that I want to put into a PR4 (B18A) block which has surface rusted, a slight hone should take it off but I'm interested in seeing what other people have done.

Re: Couple of questions, b20, blox

reason people say not to hone, is that it has to be done correctly, correct grit and rpm and by a very good shop.

Plenty get a hone and or bore by an engine builder and then the motor burns oil like crazy!
