Re: moulded lexan rear window

I went and got my car priced up for these the other day. For all for side windows it was around $350. I don't know the name of the product they use, but it is motorsport approved, and is scratch resistant. They told me you really have to use this type of material otherwise they will go all scratched and yuk after a while.

The rear hatch was going to be quite expensive somewhere around the $700 mark. However this would be a hatch that was made in a vaccume former and should fit perfectly. I have to wit for a month or so to go back for a fixed quote, because their brand new vaccume former got damaged during shipping, and they are waiting to get the parts to fix it.

So not the cheapest of places to go, but having seen their work, i know it is going to be worth the money.

So does this mean that only the front side windows are required to be made from MR10? The others can be polycarb?

Re: moulded lexan rear window

ah yeap - they have done a lot of the top fancy drag/race cars - really nice work.

If someone can clear up lexan use in a street car that would be good - can it be used in conjunction with low volume cert and 4pt cage etc?

Re: moulded lexan rear window

Yep it can, as long as you cert it. Not really much point though. The weight saving isn't very big. The way you save the weight is when you put the plastic in and then completly gut your doors. Changing all side windows would be less weight saving than laying off the pies for a week. Rear hatch you may save a few kg, but no a hell of alot.

Re: moulded lexan rear window

haha very true. If you are going to do it, make sure you don't put the plastic into any window that you still want to be able to open. It always ends up looking like shit, and getting scratched even though its scratch resistant.
