Taranaki Tarmac Rally 2007

The regs are out for the 07 tarmac rally.
They downloadable at: www.taranakicarclub.org.nz
Will be good to see a few hondas there.
Also there is a NEW GT Class which is designed to allow for a few super cars which do not normally fit into the rules eg GTR skylines, 4wd porshes or anything unique.

I'm going to look at it this year. I'll have to see how the budget allows.

Money towards current project VS. 1 day Rally

I really need to dust off the ole EF9 and give it a blast

If you are going to enter I would not leave it to long as this rally fills up pretty fast.

Ahhh, i'll flag this year. But have got my sites on next year. I would have given the car a freshen up if i could have done the Waikato Tarmac rally a fortnight before but i've got a 2 day motocross event to do which is a bloody wicked event (yes better then a 1 day tarmac rally - cheaper too 8O ). So i cant justify the time and money at the moment to enter.

But next year i'll have a go just to get the car out there. Its in semi retired state at the moment and will probably never see a 110% raping like it used to. I guess thats the problem with old cars in their rarity.

Everyone in Hondas enjoy it. And is especially can someone please have a ball of a time on Pukehiti (spelling?).

3 days to go - 92 entrants on seeding list. We are seeded 39.

This will be our first rally on pace notes. Must admit I'm a bit nervous about this but we now have 4 Targa events and last year's Waitomo rally under our belts so it's time we grew up .

Tysonzane: Thanks for your words of advice on pace notes on another thread which I think was bang on - http://nzhondas.com/phpBB2/waitomo-t...-vtu66252.html

We decided not to do Waitomo this year as we had just done Targa Rotorua, and 3 full on events in 5 weekends was just too much. Looking at the carnage in Waitomo I think it was a wise move!

Weather looks like it's clearing for Saturday, so hope there's no ice about 8O

Cheers

No problem, just be carefull and remember this. It takes years to 'become one' with the pace notes . Are you going to run them this year?

Ice is a slight issue but you probably wont have any. If you do the zero cars usually pick up on it and alert the start. The main problems on a few stages are the moss. Some of the roads get very little day light or road activity so moss does build up and beleive me if its wet it can get very very slippery especially if you start to full off the racing line on the outside of the corner, it can chuck you into the ditch very quickly.

Its been known to be a very challenging rally so take it easy. I think the first year i did it approx quater of the field finished.

To finish first, first you must finish

Good luck

Weather was great, A very classy field, 4 Hondas in the Top 20.
We had a great run bringing the car home in 12th overall, a few niggly problems but generally drove the hell out of it and took a few risks which paid off. Nathan Strachen was 14 overall and 1st B class, great drive in the CTR powered EG, Eric Uhe 16th overall and Grant Liston 18th Overall in the k20 type R integra. Nice to meet Bananaman and Im sure he got some great shots which he will post on here soon.
93 Cars started and 58 cars finished, Roads were awesome as usual.
Good to see the hondas mixing it with the late model EVOs and Imprezas.
Bring on next year!!!

Was a good weekend alright.

The corner where we were on stage one was by far the best of the day. At least 8 cars had off's. Highlight of my day was having a subaru just about run me down, lucky I was behind a concrete power pole.

Pole 1
Subaru 0

Here are some pics

Nice pics Bananaman

We were stocked to get up to 14th overall and 1st in class
after not having Vtec for the first 2 1/2 stages

our speedo stoped working at the start of the first stage and it was like someone tore my heart out

we could not find out why speedo was not working at first service and then halfway through stage 3 it just started working

I think we might have had water in speedo drive on gearbox or a problem with alternator

Does anyone know what voltage you are supose to have at the speed sensor i thought 5vdc but we have 12vdc

There is a great picture of you with the impreza about to hit the pole at
http://nzgp.zenfolio.com/p197889053
if you cant find it there go onto online motorsports forum and find Taranaki Tarmac and there is a link
Cheers Shaun
I thought us drivers had big balls but surely holding a camera still with an out of control rally car 1/2 a metre away takes the cake. WELL DONE!!!

Yup, I didn't even take a step back. That trusty power pole was there to save the day. The guy in the Levin was a little freaked out to. Just missed hitting th pole head on. I wasn't about to step back and miss the shot tho

Hey, that looks like a bit of fun. I'd love to have a go next year, if I can scrape together the cash... and a crew.

Those are some impressive, professional-looking shots Bananaman! You might have to start charging the drivers for the photos as danger money! 8)
Judging by the pics on that Zenfolio site, that pole was a popular spot to stop for a photo op!

Well done to all you guys!
