Andrews Space Shuttle Build

Not so long ago I decided I was in need of a Daily as my ITR was getting beaten up in car parks etc and I want to keep it tidy.

So the daily needed to be:
-Honda
-Practical
-Cheap
-Different

So what fulfilled these requirement?

A 1989 EF3 Honda Civic Shuttle which I found after searching on trademe for a few weeks, was exactly what I wanted, 2wd as opposed to the 4wd, injected D15 as opposed to a duel carb one.

But it was in ChCh, so I spoke to Ben (logger) and he went and bought it for me.
And then proceeded to use it to celebrate end of exams (which it apparently did quite well at) then he drove it 900kms in 14.5hours and about a tank and a half of petrol.

This is how it arrived (after i cleaned it):

(note ITR gearknob and new CD player)

So yea quite impressed with it, for a D series it goes well but I keep wondering when vtec kicks in (anyone know? )

Looks good dirty too:

Now as you may have guessed my intentions were never to keep this stock, but it is by no means a serious project, doing it for a bit of fun and to have a Honda that hasnt been done to death, even people who hate Hondas love this car

So I got some superlow springs for it, but as it turns out shuttle rear shocks are about 30mm too long for the springs, so I had to find EF civic Shocks.

In the mean time I installed a "strobe snake" in the boot, its a clear flexi tube with 5 blue strobes, cost $7 on trademe years ago and was just sitting around.
Good for a laugh (no pics )

Then I got a EF Civic Front lip for $35:

Makes it looks a bit better, will paint it when I have money.
Also removed monsoon shields as the were broken and sellotaped together (bloody southerners )

Then found some shocks so I got those:

Koni Yellows with some springs, mega cheap (I will just say under $320), so hopefully they will be here this weekend.

Also have ordered from FBI:
Simota EF Intake
PWJDM shift boot
PWJDM Bulbs

After that its time for wheels, trying to get some 15x7" +20 offset wheels, or something around there, will see what I can find.

So dont take this project to seriously, its all a bit of fun and isnt meant to be a big budget afair. Will update as I go, enjoy

Re: Andrews Space Shuttle Build

Cheers, those two are owned by the same guy, or best mates or something.

Just the 5 lug swap can be bought for $1400us with no rotors.

On another note, just installed intake and headlight bulbs. No pics as its dark and still rugged as. Will tidy it up on the weekend.

Re: Andrews Space Shuttle Build

Does a b18c mount up if you use ef9 b16a mounts or is the shuttle mounting different?

Exactly the same, considering doing DOHC ZC or D16 Vtec as they bolt straight in.
Only if this motor dies (very noisy tappets in the mornings and doesnt smell too good)

Exactly the same yes, just a bit steeper due to the high bonnet rake.

Also unsure if anyone knows but if you have an EF and want an undertank exhaust a Shuttle on may be what you are after, as it room for the 4wd driveshaft (yes even the 2wd ones have 4WD chassis).
Cant confirm if it will fit though

Re: Andrews Space Shuttle Build

Cheers guys, quite surprised at the response this build is getting to be honest.

Dont think I will be doing an engine swap as it just a daily, its almost tempting to leave it at stock height as its nice not having to slow down for driveways etc
But I just cant do it.

Looking at getting either a deepdish suede steering wheel, or getting a Woodgrain Nardi one off a MX5.

Im currently having starting issues, 99% sure its the main relay, so will pull that out on the weekend and take all the old solder off and put some new stuff on.

+2 for deep dish!!! Watching this build with great interest. Do you have plans on doing much to the motor. im going to throw this out there and say. Dont you think an h22a would make a mint daily driver? I cant get enough of driving danielles car around cause you just have power on tap with the h22a over the b18c which has nothing till up in the revs.
