| Member 700rpm (Idle) | Hey guys & girls I just bought a crx an im wanting it to go abit faster an look alot better (i know nothing about hondas btw) i dont have much money to start with but so far im working on getting some new rims 17' an springs done also paint then next this is the part i NEED HELP WITH ~ New Motor or stay with the one i got.The motor at the mow is a 1.6 dual carb non vtec engine my friend thinks that i should just get 2 bigger carbs like 2.0 or 2.3 an put them on coz then it would go alot faster but i was thinking about getting a 1.8 or 2.0 turbo vtec engine an putting it in i know then carbs would be cheaper but the vtec would b better in the long run aye???(im in chch) |

Secondly, if you know nothing about Hondas then don't touch turbo vtec. It will just put you in a world of headache. Just stick with the basics and read the stickied threads for starter tips. |

| Senior Member 6,000rpm (Max Torque) | Re: My Prodject Crx Got pics of it? Because its carb and you say it needs a paint job why not sell it and buy one thats injected and tidy or even get a later model tidy car as it will be cheaper than a paint job alone and save you alot of work. So you could keep the current crx standard and save some pingas then sell it and get an ef8 dohc vtec b16a. Then its a cheap and easy swap for an b18c which will be cheaper and fast as. Just an idea.. |

Then you can mix and match different setups that will fit into your budget, like you could get the body really mint but have the current engine.. or you could drop in a B18cR and make her a sleeper... But yeah, just read through the forums and see what others have done before you spend a cent ![]() |

| Senior Member 8,000rpm (B Series Redline!) | Re: My Prodject Crx Hahaha, Yea.... Dual Carb'd Turbo Corolla.... WTF? And I think your mates integra must only have turbo stickers on it, not an actual turbo. Here is some advice... You need to sell this car and buy another. You said you dont have much money but you want it to be a mission to do? They really shouldnt go in the same sentence. Your best bet would be to sell this car and as others have said, buy a factory DOHC VTEC CRX. Or if you cant find one, even a DOHC one will be fine. If you want to run an injected engine, you will want to start with a car that is already injected. Carburetters are fine for large, low revving engines (V8's and what not) but no good if you want small engine, long power band, modern japanese engine. Now, you could run bigger carbs, and it will be the easiest option but you really wont get much (any) more power. One of my Austins runs twin SU carbs with K&N air filters, race cam, rebuilt engine, up'd compression, lightened crank, and is still probably lower powered than my partners factory injected DOHC civic. The engine was about a $4000 rebuild. Prodject is actually spelt "Project" by the way.

Location: Christchurch | Re: My Prodject Crx Carbied Civics are a low spec model. Drum rear brakes, less comfortable interior, smaller front brakes, pre-facelift, no swaybars etc. They aren't even economical for what they are IMO... and their carbs are among the worst of all mass production carbs, nobody in Christchurch will touch them. Don't even waste your time trying to make it go faster, I tried and it was a waste of money. Did ramflo filters, headers, full exhaust, and the usual ignition mods. But made no difference and it just ran like shit. Back to stock and it is sweet, I would even go so far as to say its faster. You could always swap some higher spec carbs onto a custom inlet manifold, but it would just make your fuel consumption ridiculous, and for the money you would spend you could probably have sold your car and upgraded. Trust me, it is not a matter of the driver in this case, numbers (ie, engine ratings) don't lie and carby hondas are the dogs bollocks. Just save your money and get a higher spec model. If you are on a budget the idea of an engine swap will be out of the question I am sure. Whatever you do though, I am sure us Christchurch NZH guys will be more than happy to help.

| Senior Member 4,000rpm (Taxi Drag) | Re: My Prodject Crx Hey man, Yea, I would say sell your CRX and buy something already Injected, you'll save money for other (more important) stuff and save yourself a whole heap of stress. My own swap is pretty straight forward, but to do it properly it has cost a little bit more than I originally budgeted.....That is always the way. Let us know what your budget is and we might be able to help a bit more. |
