dont line this car up at the lights.

here is a car ive been helping with for a while. my mate joes mirage with an evo6 motor and 4wd. this is quite possibly the worlds easiest engine swap.

he got the whole project off trademe. the guy got told by his mrs to finish it or sell it and he didnt have time to build it so he sold it all to joe for 6 grand!!

for that he got:
a stock 1500cc automatic mirage (boooo) that had a factory 4wd GSR floor pan (sweet, and very very rare.)
evo 6 motor
evo 6 box
GSR rs diff
some disc brakes (mirage had drums)
and a whole lot of other stuff.

it was a pretty sweet deal really. the mirage hadnt been touched so we were starting from scratch with no knowledge of evos or turbos between us.

after takling to guys on MMC and the BITSA MITSI wreckers we found out the engine would bolt in on the stock mounts (sweet) the wiring would just plug in (mega sweet for me as i said i would wire it) and all the 4wd system from evo 4-6 or GSR of the same years would bolt in too.

so we ripped out the old motor and gear selectors, diffs, driveshafts and brakes.

engine and gearbox went in. we swapped the mounts for some ralliart ones for some extra stiffness.

evo6 gearstick bolted in exactly where the auto one was. still need to get a boot for it.

evo 6 driveshafts popped straight in. the center drive shaft of the mirage was about a foot shorter but it was the same thickness and had the same hanger bearings as the evo one so we kept the mirage one. the GSR rs diff (factory LSD but no yaw controll <what we wanted) bolted straight up along with the factory rear drive shafts.

intercooler and piping was all done custom at beyond along with the exhaust and wastegate (tial). we did have the car running but it was overboosting because of the 3 inch exhaust being so free flow so we changed the exhaust manifold for an aftermarket one and added the wastegate later on.

the evo 6 engine loom plugged into the mirage car loom which plugged into an evo 4 gauge cluster. there were a few small wiring changes that had to be made but nothing i cant handle. all the mitsi wiring diagrams are easy to find on the net. we used an evo 4 cluster cause it does the same job as an evo6 but is a lot cheaper at the wreckers. they both bolt up in the factory location and look stock. the evo 6 computer is stock for now but joe plans to change it and tune it.

driving the car is awesome fun. its probably a little bit more power than a stock evo 6 cause its running 18 pound boost instead of 15. the car weighs just over 1000kg with full interrior which puts it about 300kg lighter than an evo.

just wating on a cert now and then its off to the drags. ( i get a free drive for doing the wiring, sick)

Re: dont line this car up at the lights.

holy shit!
all it needs is some steelies and clip ons, some car seat covers, a fluffy steering wheel cover and some nana-spec items left lying around the car.
and nobody would suspect a thing...

Re: dont line this car up at the lights.

Very cool conversion.

I know of a similar mirage just slightly older with an extremely hybrid motor, had parts from all makes of cars in it.

Will be very fast.

Nice conversion! whats the chassis code of those 4WD Mirages that have the same floor plan as the Evo's?

Early ones are CC4A and CC3A, later ones are CL2A.
