Type R Build Thread(updated 14/11/08 new pics)

Well first of all I recently took ownership of this 1996 Type R integra, I was quite happy with my new toy until on the drive home from hamilton, I heard a rather large BANG from under the car. pulled over at the BP just by the bombays and had a look couldnt see anything so continued driving. but everytime I seemed to even put my foot down a little bit I would hear this massive BANG sound.
I straight away thought hmmm must be engine mounts. got home and jack the car up to see that oh fuck the gearbox braket and casing and all that were completety broken off and the motor was only holding in by 2 mounts as the front ones were not even bolted on... and someone has made some rangi arse bracket to try and fix it....DODGY!!!. let alone that the brake pads were so fucked that they were down to METAL on METAL..... shit....
the boots completely torn to shit and grease everywhere...
engine check light was on all the way home.....
took the dash out to find wiring fuckin everywhere and shit to my horror someone has hacked at the enginebay at sometime to try do the wiring or something...
so here starts my build thread to tidy up this car and make it into a really tidy ITR that I have always wanted to own.

Re: Type R Build Thread

Good work on startin a new build thread. Did you even check the car before you swapped or anything? Surely you dont buy something like this without giving it a once oveR? or is it just me?..

Goodluck with this though. I've seen your cars and the shit you've done with them so no doubt this will come out looking mint.

it was very spur of the moment to be honest. late afternoon and I guess I just trusted the guys word when he said it was "mint" and I had seen that DC2R owned it and had run the numbers down the strip.
and thanks for your last comment

Re: Type R Build Thread

wow I can honestly say I've never seen that done to a honda tranny bracket...

Hondas are renouned for the ease of swap and the ability to avoid well exactly that sort of carry on. Heh at least it didn't break even though I'm sure you'd rather it did!

Re: Type R Build Thread

tonight I got alot of the bay smoothed off, I am not going all out show car on this just wanted to make it really clean and fresh in the bay.
Stripped it down to bare metal and resealed alot of the edges in the bay gave it a good sand down with the D/A and got rid of alot of scratched up paint.
then mixed up some epoxy primer to protect the steel before I lay down the nice fresh 2 pac primer.

Re: Type R Build Thread

I will have more updates over the next few days.
I to be honest with you cant beleive the state people let things get to and as for the bracket and gearbox, in 6 years of working on hondas and doing over 30+ b series swaps on hondas... I have never seen it myself.
oh well will be mint as in a few weeks/month then yay can actually drive it and have some fun and hopefully run a better time than the 13.7 1/4 mile its apparently run before

yeah fusebox was cable tied down by the powersteering rack and the battery box was in the boot. screwed to the floor...yup you heard it screwed.... so that has now been replace and bolted into the car properly with massive washers so the box wont rip out if you brake heavy.
The guy who owned this car before me was an absolute "NO IDEA"
ripped the headunit out and left all the live wiring chilling around where the stereo goes. first thing my old man noticed when we drove down the road so quickly got some tape from the gas station and taped it up till we got home.
felt like going back and taking my old car back....

Re: Type R Build Thread

Wow, can't believe the amount of stuff that's gone wrong in a fairly recent car! (1996)
You'd sort of be shocked if it happened to an older car, around 1990 ish, but this is ridiculous!

The guy that sold it is off these forums too.. a quick browse around the For Sale section will find the thread.

Good stuff for getting stuck in so quickly, very impressive!

Re: Type R Build Thread

LOL,

i cant stop laughing at that... wat is it? a rangified D series L bracket?

lookin good ricci!
i felt the same pain wen i aquired the ae... pulled the whole thing down and started again! .... PLus its a bonus knowing yourself wats in every knook and corner of the whole car... wiring/dodgy welds, lose bolts, broken shiz etc etc

its a simple fact of buying modded cars these days i gues...
