| Senior Member 6,000rpm (Max Torque) | Re: Project:LUC1D The Re-Build!!! So after an unsuccessful few months i thought i better get back on the horse once again. So ive complied a list of immediate and optional tasks to complete before october. alright lets begin!!! ![]() ![]() This is the car on a tow truck a couple of weeks after SIMM. The car ran and drove but after an engine check light during the weekend and compression tests presented a slow leaking cylinder4, suggestions were to stick it on the trailor. After umming and ahhring and tooing and froing... came down to this list of things. Immediate: - engine rebuild - gearbox rebuild - LSD overhaul - New conversion harness - Reinstall Race seats Optional: - install some oil/water temp gauges - install some other 4-2-1 headers - ???? Some lets see some progress i hear?!?!

| Senior Member 6,000rpm (Max Torque) | Re: Project:LUC1D The Re-Build!!! The list above is also to have the car reliable. first up is the conversion harness replacement. ![]() this is the boomslang conversion harness. many years ago i bought it and it was the wrong one so i modded it to work and after years of plugging and unplugging its seen better days. ![]() here on the left is the Rywire.com conversion harness. comparing the 2 side-by-side the grey one very simple in design and it gets ![]() ![]() Unplugged the old one, soldered some wires back to OEM and plugged the ECU and rywire harness in and cranked and started first pop. ![]() so far, so good. Lets move on to the gearbox. first up, LSD overhaul. ![]() the picture is recent its just that we havent switched the calender over to june. haha and its almost july. ![]() ![]() anyway, so this is the ATS LSD with the side bearings pressed off and ready to be opened up. ![]() 4 x 4mm Allen key screws later and that gap is the tension the ramp and cam is under. you could add thicker shims to lock it up a bit more but meh.. ![]() heres the top cover removed showing a plate and the top of a side gear. ![]() ever wanted to know what a plated LSD looks like? ![]() heres another plate. two types. ![]() So all i did to overhaul it was strip the entire LSD. Cleaned all parts in brake-kleen. Inspect for any wear. Put it all back together and adding LSD oil to everything. Ive decided to go for Motul FF-LSD TypeII oil and am just waiting for it. But thats all for now. Thanks you for stopping by and reading. ![]()

Alrighty, small update. parts arrived for the gearbox so with the half hour i had after work i started stripping the main shaft. ![]() this one of the main shaft bearings being pressed out. the other is in the box casing. once i pressed the bearing the rest of the gears just fell out.. is that normal? ![]() ![]() ![]() this is 3/4 of the main shaft complete. ran out of time to press the bearing back on. but will did get a guess in at work today, no photos sorry because i thought that would be inappropriate. but anyway...any guesses? heres a clue... ![]() anyone?

| Senior Member 6,000rpm (Max Torque) | Re: The Final: Tour of Duty! Alright, update! ![]() first, we'll imagine this is a my EF9 in stock condition. acutal fact its a DA8 in the workshop. any how... ![]() this is it now minus the intake pipe. so i started draining all the fluids and prepping it for motor removal. next few pics are of underneath operations. ![]() select your weapon. ![]() dont choose the little one you chump! ![]() nor the copper-head hammer you n00b! ![]() correct!! nora the explorer would be proud! ![]() heres the balljoint nut with the split pin removed. ![]() here is the nut loosen and wound back on finger tight. ![]() "X" marks the spot. ![]() contact lower arm with hammer like so. its only takes one perfect hit in the right spot to break the joint. ![]() once broken the nuts removed and hub lifted up and balljoint thread out of the lower arm. ![]() that leaves enough room to lever out the half shafts and swing them out of the way. ![]() and because the engine is coming up, the cv's must be pushed down to avoid catching anything while the engine/box is hoisted. also note the exhaust flange is disconnected and the shift linkage seperated. with the underneath done, attention turns to the engine bay. ![]() radiator, front engine mount, intake pipe, acclerator and clutch cable and fuel supply and return lines all removed or disconnected. now the engine loom. ![]() mr hondata all alone and naked. because of the de-loom all the connectors, including the fuse box is now under the dash. so it added about 10 extra minutes to the job. ![]() fusebox. ![]() injector resistor box and one engine plug. ![]() 1 of 2 modified factory holes where the loom plugs are pulled through. ![]() 2 of 2 modified holes. ![]() excuse the freakishly hairy arms. main engine plugs disconnected.![]() injector and charge harness plugs disconnected. ![]() out she comes. ![]() ![]() oh noes!!! ![]() ![]() ditto. ![]() ![]() thank god i took the radiator out! ![]() ![]() Ta DAAAA!!! ![]() Vtax out! ![]() engine bay vacant. ![]() ooooh....whats this??? anyway.. ![]() box off and have a looksee at the clutch. ![]() DVM flywheel. Jayco pressure plate and 4 puk solid centre clutch disc. the disc will be swapped out for a standard item to reduce vibration at take off! as i was stripping the motor down i finally noticed what i spent my money on with the head porting. ![]() heres a factory b16a intake port with about 20,000km. ![]() and heres my 2500km motor. gearbox oil finally arrived as well as a catch can. will put the box back together during the week, maybe. so thats all i managed today. thanks for stopping by. if theres anything you want photos of, let me know. k thnx.

| Senior Member 6,000rpm (Max Torque) | Re: The Final: Tour of Duty! just another exhaust manifold. big tube 4-2-1 with a modified x-member. and removed the pcv valve and using a GReddy closed catch can. and also a revised intake piping. going for the true CAI. hopefully with those mods the engine will see over the 150kw mark.

| Senior Member 6,000rpm (Max Torque) | Re: The Final: Tour of Duty! well for the same money you could have a k24 with a JRSC putting out over 300hp. so i wouldnt go silly with a b16a, especially if your not cashed up. not saying i am either but the majority of the build happened when i was doing quite well with money. No rent, no food bills, no petrol costs, high pay job. this is the final tour of duty for this car before i hand it over to someone deserving. so this build is to ensure the reliabiltiy of the chasis, gearbox, and engine(as far as a maxed out b16a can be). after this build is complete i'll be looking at an engine swap that has impressive factory output and response well to simple mods.
