And no, you cannot engage VTEC at 1000rpm using factory cams for two main reasons:
- there is not enough oil pressure
- in first gear you will not be meeting the speed requirement for VTEC
The VTEC solenoid and LMAs are disabled, and VTEC rocker arm removed - reducing the mass involved in the valvetrain, and increasing valvetrain efficiency/accuracy. It has nothing to do with killing VTECs - it is still "VTEC" essentially, just permanantly on what
was "high cam".
