    Question Re: New Forum Feedback

    Alright just an update

Perceived Big Issues from this thread that haven't been resolved:
New Posts - Fail. I know what the problem is, but not exactly how to fix it. Support ticket logged, waiting on feedback. Please bear with me on this one. If the extra scroll wheel usage is causing you RSI please take a break, I don't want to get sued.
Chat - Is coming back. I'm doing some database improvements first and I want to be 100% satisfied with that before I install any addons that change the database.
Search - Will be 100% working now down to two characters, so you can search for "DC" or "EG" etc. This was done through the default vB4 search, so I'm expecting the results to be a bit rubbish. I've got another search product I'm going to experiment with down the line which will make searches a lot better and a lot faster.

Minor Issues from this thread that haven't been resolved:

The whole links/logged in profile area up the top I'm now 100% happy with. At some stage I'm going to have a reorganise, that will come in time. This is the same with a lot of the minor cosmetic changes mentioned in this thread. They may or may not get done, but if you feel strongly about it we'll sort something out.

Can you take some screenshots of exactly what you mean and send them to me in a PM or by email? gecko@nzhondas.com

If those issues are related to the smaller resolution, don't be so sure... I purposely told the designer to use 1280 width as a baseline as 70% of our visitors have at least that, and out of the remaining 30% half of that were from mobile phones which we'll have native apps for. As above, can you take some screenshots of exactly what you mean and send them to me in a PM or by email? gecko@nzhondas.com

(hope u get what i mean)
Not so sure what you're getting at there, but generally the same picture in the same thread is a no no. Keep in mind that different people load different amounts of posts per page, so if you have yours set as 20 posts per page and I have mine set as 50, I'll see that same picture twice on one page. Just link back to the post rather than linking the picture?

If there are any other issues outside what I've listed, again please let me know. I do have another list that Jase and myself made pre and post upgrade, but don't assume we're working on something unless I've mentioned it in here!

    Cheers;

    Re: New Forum Feedback

When looking at the 'new posts' search results, there used to be a line showing where I last visited ("these posts are not new, but still contain unread posts") or something like that, So I know to stop skimming through the list of threads. It doesn't appear to be there any more?

just to add to this, i'm not sure if it was mentioned but if it has ignore this . When the page is brought up with the latest unread post on it, the unread post looks to be marked as read. i.e. it has the icon rather than the icon. When you go to the next page all the posts have the correct unread icon:

    Cheers boss

nice new look guys! Is the inability to start new threads in some topics related to the "new post" problem? Sorry, have spent ages looking for something related to this but can't find any mention of it...

    Re: New Forum Feedback

^-- Where can you not do that? That definitely won't be related, you should be able to start new threads/posts everywhere EXCEPT for Build Threads, there you can't put new threads, but you can reply to existing ones, but I put a post in there explaining why.

the icon colour? yeah got that yesterday thanks, but this is a different bug (or it may be related to the new post bug). I'm not articulating too well. i shall try again...

When you click the "go to First New Post" button by the thread title and it only takes you to the page with the first new post (the bug you already know of), when you scroll down to find the first new post, it should have the post_new.png but instead it has the post_old.png. I assume it should be the post_new.png as when you go to the next page on that thread (with unread posts) all the posts on that page have the post_new.png.

    Does that make any sense?

    Re: New Forum Feedback

Yeah I think I get what you mean, if I don't then this won't make sense so let me know. I think it's related to the "newpost" bug, because that bug looks to load the page once, and then it refreshes it, which would reset the "new status" - win?

That would be consistent with what i see with the existing bug.

Nice changes to the site James.

Sorry if this has been suggested before. But would you be able to introduce image signatures? As long as they aren't huge and shit. I can't see it been too much of a problem.
