Fitting EK sideskirts to an EG.

I have read the online tutorials and pictorials but have always thought, "There must be an easier way", today is the day I will show you an easier way.

2 problems you face with fitting EK sideskirts to an EG hatch.

1 - The mounting points on the sideskirt do not match the mounting holes on the chassis.

2 - The EK sideskirts are longer than the sill of the EG.

To get the skirt & clips off, undo the clips from underneath and the screw at the front and slide the whole sideskirt forward from back to front. The skirt will release from the clips. Then turn each white clip 45 degrees and wiggle it out.

I will attempt to guide you through from the point of the old skirts being removed.

The big issue with remounting the sideskirt is the clips need a square hole to mount them. So it got me thinking.

Why can't I use those round door trim clips that you get from those "Champion Handy Packs" from Repco or Supercheap Auto. Stock clip on the right, new clips on the left.

Install the stock clip to the back mount.

I have decided to only use 3 Champion clips to each side. Next you are going to line the sideskirt up and mark spots to be drilled with grease.

This shows how far out the 2 skirt mounting positions are. I used an 8mm drill bit to match the Champion clip.

I had these lying around with are ideal for securing the sideskirt from underneath. They are Honda OEM undertray clips.

The back hole lines up once again.

The other 2 holes need to be drilled. So out with the 10mm drill bit for use with these clips.

    Clips installed.

    Sideskirts installed.

Hope this is helpful. In a street application you would cut the sideskirt in line with the front guard and then use the mudflap to cover it up. But I haven't decided on how I will tackle this on a race car.

Spray all new drilled holes with spray paint to reduce corrosion.

    Cheers.

From Supercheap or Repco. Have edited first post to include that info.

2 reasons I won't be doing it this way.

    1 - Too hard, can't be bothered.
2 - Because the start of the sideskirt flares out and the guard doesn't, I think it would look odd.

Good write up, why not just cut it flush and leave it like that if it's a racecar. Or make an alloy insert to fill the cutout. You could also just cut the end section off, slide it into the skirt and polyurethane the ends using prepsol to create a tidy bead? If you don't understand I could draw a diagram on MS paint for you if you're interested

I will be cutting it off flush with the guard. The front of the sideskirt needs to be secured, would fear for it tearing off at speed.

You could always just get some extra generic black plastic from somewhere and extend the inner guard slightly.

Could fix it on using rivets with washers or something similar.

That way you wont have a glaring gap where the inner guard ends and exposes the inside of the side skirt

    end result?

edit: nevermind, i see they are still like that, turning radius looks like it would clear them too

Am going to cut off flush with the guard and secure the sideskirt with utilising bottom mounting point of the guard with a washer, longer bolt and spacer to go between skirt and guard.

Still running inner plastic guard? Could use that with a bracket on the inside which should hide the cut off piece.
