    Re: EK hatch minimum weight??

Not sure if the subframe will work. I know people use the EG/DC rear subframes with the EKK2 hasport (and other brands) mount kits because it mounts the engine a little further back in the engine bay to get the axels to a better angle and just an overall better wieght position for the engine. Dont know if normal EK B series mounts will allow for an EG/DC subframe. It'll be interesting to find out though.

The window thing is something i have suspected for ages, as with the V8 team i am involved with we found that the electric windows in the Falcon were quite a bit lighter than the wind up ones.

    Re: EK hatch minimum weight??

Tim called me for a chat regarding it but i'll let him update it. The jist of the story is that once you use EG arms there is almost no wieght to be saved and light wieght arms are $600 . There are some good options in going with EG arms as you can dial in more caster .

    Re: EK hatch minimum weight??

    EK Subframe > EG Subframe
    EK Arms < EG Arms

    Total weight saving = 250g

    BUT!

Lightweight EG arms would save BIG unsprung weight, and enable lots and lots of castor adjustment, something thats really hard to do on an EK. You would also need an EG/DC steering rack.

The lightweight alloy arms are around $600 though, but I would venture that the handling benefits would justify the price.

This all came about through the US Honda racers I would imagine. To do a K-swap into and EK you have to use an EG/DC subframe, but not for weight saving - just to make the thing fit!

OK so i figure you can get a EK down to 850kg, so race weight will be about 950kg. Perfect for a 2ltr honda challenge car on slicks.

If you're using Hasport EKK1 mounts you still use the EK subframe and arms. The EKK2s use the EG/DC subframe, LCAs and steering rack.

The EKK1s have some advantages for drag racing (it puts the engine slightly further forward for better weight distribution and also leaves enough room behind the block for a massive turbo) but put the axles at more of an angle. IMO the EKK1s are definitely the way to go for circuit racing.

The NZDM EK4 was stated at 1131kg stock, while the JDM EK4 was said to be 1050kg for the SiR and 1080kg for the SiR II. The facelift JDM EK4 was 1100kg.

The NZDM one was in a publication somewhere, could have been the user manual. The JDM ones were on www.cars-directory.net/specs/honda.

    Re: EK hatch minimum weight??

Lexan requirements are 4.5mm minimum (Must be MR10 if you want to get an Authority card, MR10 is expensive though).

XL10 is cheaper and OK to use on side and rear windows, but for front you would be better to use MR10 as XL10 doesn't have any coating to prevent scratches.

Ofcourse if money is no object, just use MR10 all round.

One point about using electric windows in a race car...

Crash... no power... aside from breaking the window how do you get out? Assuming the doors are bashed a bit.

I think if the doors are that badly bashed then the glass would have smashed or the lexan folding out. If they were that badly bashed they would probably come off the manual winding mechanism or get jammed anyway so you're at square one again.
