Re: Close Ratio Gear Set - Quaife

Think if you talk to Greg you will find that he runs/ran an ATS kit and 4th gear failed
Ah yes thats right, sorry I have been away for a few years, probably tuned that car about 4 years ago so forget the exact specs on it. Glad his car is running strong.

have got a 3 puk sprung centre in mine and have not broken a gear yet and the gearset has been there for 3 years now.
Indeed Mark, I'd be very suprised if anyone here was breaking honda gears in a B series minial TQ car because of their clutch.
Solid centre clutch breaking axles off the line at meremere perhaps :0
If they are breaking in a circuit car then somethings wrong, those gears are very strong! (BIG torque kills them)

Here is a link to gearsets breaking also, people say they were installed correctly. So who knows the quality of some of them
(note the mfactory gear set breaking badly!)

The J1 has a real close 4th and 5th gear. What you can do is get a new 3rd and 4th made so the spacing is even between 2nd to 5th which works out quite nice.

J1 has same ratios as S1? Well thats what ive experienced anyway? Unless my J1 has had someone playing with gearsets in it.

Have you had custom gears made?

J1 and S1 have same ratios, but J1 has slightly better synchro's in 3rd and 4th. Got gears made here in NZ (havent seen any for sale for those boxes)

Update. Went to Andrew Short, and between him and Brent they have sorted me out with a kit.
Hopefully, it'll all be installed and run in for Targa Bambina.
