    Making Moulds

So I have just bought brand new front guards and a front bumper. Want to get moulds made from them so I can do fibreglass copies or even produce a thinner front bumper for weight saving.

    Questions are:

    - What kind of people can do this? ie, key words in the yellow pages.
    - Costs involved in producing said moulds.
    - Anyone interested in these items?

Car is an EG6 and I know there are a lot of them running on the track. Also have a bonnet mould which produces just the top skin, so 4 bonnet pins would need to be used.

    Cheers.

Hey thanks for that. I feel stupid asking that question now. Haha.

I guess the 3rd question is the most important one now.

if your wanting to do stuff yourself, its not too hard... and I sell all the stuff at work (althou Im leaving there soonish)

need mould release wax and few other goodies... can add up in cost but it goes a fair way.

if you wana talk about things, just ask.... have done a few moulds myself before... can lead you thru it
You think car racing is fun... try going down a river stuck in a plastic tube dodging rocks... even I ask myself why

I am talking about making moulds of factory guards. But if you have vented ones available which aren't wider I may be interested in a price.

don't think I got factory guard with vented on our own parts,I import from another supplier few years ago but I found that the fitment is not up to my standard,so I don't sell them anymore.I do have other parts for EG in fibre glass that we usually use in race car oversea,I will double check if factory guard is available now or not for you, cheers

    Re: Making Moulds

The standard steel EG guards are already very light, you would be hard pressed to get a fiberglass one lighter without it being very flimsy & flexing a lot.

    Re: Making Moulds

i had frp guards and they were definately heavier than standard.

although you can put a bit of wide arch in them which is bonus

i looked into supplies to build a set and bought them for less outa japan in the end

EG bumpers and gaurds are light and cheap enough as it is. Dime a dozen.

Have seen FG shatter and splinter then slice and deflate tyres just as good.

Might stick to brand new panels then. Its hard to find straight guards these days.
