yeah ill say so too, would have been better with it moved
also the teg pics are a little dark, maybe a bit of flash would have helped, some low fill stuff, not full blast, either bounced off a reflective card like ive got on my big sunpak flash or thru a couple layers of tissue paper to help mute how strong it is

the cat one is quite a nice bokeh, pretty sharp. both the itr shots are bit soft tho, and i would think of the composition more.

wht's the setting one the gearnob? i would try drop the aperture right open and use a faster shutter and crop on the gearnob a bit.

Re: My pics thread help? 56k....NO NO NO!

It is the focal length of the lens he is using. To give you an idea of how it works, hold your finger right infront of your face and stare at it, notice how the background is blurry? Now stare past your finger and focus on something in the distance, now your finger is blurred right? The focal length of your lens (eyes) is what gives that effect, same thing here.

EDIT: That photo above perhaps could have been composed a bit better? There is a lot of that boring blurred gravel to the right doing nothing. Perhaps got closer for a macro or tried a different angle. Looks like you are coming along quickly though!

ok that one is good, should have cropped out that bud on the right and zoomed in/cropped in photoshop to remove alot of the background, its detracting from the flower itself, the image feels quite cluttered

hmmm .... i tri to avoid editing an image...i try to get the photos straight off the camera as they are... umm... ill do waht you are suggesting next time... but the little thingy on the top right was there becasue i couldn't actually move the camera right or left as there is a whole bunch of crap floweres on either side... also i was at maximum focal length on that one.

Re: My pics thread help? 56k....NO NO NO!

the whole point of having a digital cam is to manipulate the image quickly and easily, a little crop wont hurt it, infact it would improve the image a bit

when i learned back in 1994 to take b/w photos, develop the film and print it all myself in the school darkroom, even then we cropped alot of shit out of the pics. sometimes you take the best pic you can and rely on manipulating the image afterwards in print/photoshop to bring out what your trying to show

    if that makes any sense

for those ones on the waterfront.. try and wait for a bus or big truck to go past.. the result is usually insane.. the first flower pic would have been better if you took it like the second.. needs the detail

the car pics are too dark, kinda look noisy too

keep tryin, have a search on flickr an try to learn from the pros

Love the first teg one, and really like the kitty one, looks like our cat . Out of all the photos, I am not sure the gear knob one gives you justice...but Iagree with what EGD said about it in his comment. I like your first night shot but not keen on the reflective arrows...find them a bit distracting, and I would cheat and PS some of the lens flare out. Think you have some great shots though!
