I was under the impression that humans couldn’t eat the liver of a carnivore because they store Vitamin A there. Well I think that’s what I heard on a documentary ages ago.

Vitamin A overdose= long slow painful death over several days.
I think a little liver is ok, but say if you ate a whole polar bear liver then you will die of Vitamin A overdose.

Bout the living octopus in the soup thing.. I went to a asain food place on top Queen St last year with a mate and they served up a dish that had octupus in it too, and its arms were wriggling. The dish was steaming hot so I duno if the octopus was alive or just the nerves twitching or something? hahahaha.
    Why ?

It would have been the heatwaves of the dish making the tentacles wriggle. There is no way you can eat live octupus... the ink sac etc... you'd end up very sick.

Do people in china eat dog? - Yahoo! Answers

That article explains it quite well.

I have had BBQ crickets in Japan, Huhu Grubs in NZ and several varieties of lizard in Australia. I dont see much there thats any worse. If you dont like it you dont have to eat it

I would probably draw the line at dog though.
I apologise but I seem to have misplaced all my Hondas...

Re: Chinese Fast Food @ the Olympics

some of the beautiful, weird, and awful stuff I've tried.

I've tried dog and it honestly tastes like goat. Probably because it was cooked similar.
Felt really warm after eating probably because of guilt.

Yes, I am Asian, Filipino to be exact, and no not everyone eats weird food. My sisters get sick looking at raw salmon but not with the oozing fat out of a BK.

I've tried scorpion and well it tastes like insects that go in your mouth when you go jogging near a lake on a really early morning.

Horse Testicle or Penis soup in curry and chili on rice.
Beautiful food, why they had to pick that part. I have no clue.

    Sea Urchin.
Prickles are removed and insides are served raw (sashimi) on top of vinegar rice.
Otherwise known as the special Japanese delicay. Uni Sushi
Yuck, felt like eating snot. Japanese buddy loves it. shrug.

    Balot.
Young Duckling cooked in it's own shell and juice.
Add salt and vinegar after cracking shell.
I tend not to look at it when eating.
Tastes good but gross me out if I look.

    Dinugoan.
Cooked pork blood in a bazillion spices.
Beautiful food again.. I think Irish have a similar dish? Black Pudding?

    Jellyfish.
When cooked actually looks like vegetable.
No taste. Taste is whatever it was served in/as.

    Black Ants.
    Served preserved.
    Yuck. Tastes like insect.
I think insects will always taste like crap.
Won't stop me from trying if I get the chance though.

Anyway, yeah.. people eat all kinds of shit.
Also, I think it's wrong to judge a race by what they eat.

Chinese/Asians always get the eye for occasionally having dog in the menu.
Well, some cultures would also give Westerners the eye for eating a cow.
My niece has a pet bunny. My friend seems to enjoy Elmer's Rabbit Stew but would rather not eat his dog. The world renowned French Chefs all eat slimy snails and rare fungi. Muslims stay away from pork. Vegans think everyone's a murderer.

    Mmmmmm :9

Haha yep ive tried some of that funky shit when i went back to the homeland about 4 years ago.

turtle isnt too bad, its flesh is nice and white, felt sorry when i saw it gettin prepared though lol.

ive tried the duckling in eggs as zerone mentioned, it looks horrible and takes equally as discusting.

Jellyfish- taste like nothing, doesnt look discusting, its abit plain though.

prob some others but i cant remember.

some of this shit is normal in asian countries.. different but normal lol.

Ahhh... jellyfish. My ex-girlfriend took me to one of her favourite resteraunts and I was served jellyfish. It doesn't really have any taste. It was served cold with sweet chilli sauce. It was almost like oudon noodles!

Have tried chickens feet. Never really figured how to eat them properly.

But yes, I see what you mean about Dinugoan... sounds very similar to Black Pudding, which is my favourite meal! Serve it with wedges and bacon. There are different styles though... cheap ones have a pork sausage like texture - proper black pudding should be firm, but almost crumble in your mouth and be nice and spicy. I think the texture depends on the temperature the blood is cooked at, and how much blood content there is.

I've tried chicken feet when my mum used to take me to yum char, they marinated it or something cause it was all red. Not much meat on it pretty much just eating skin, didn't taste too bad actually.

pfft, didn't you know Chinese people eat everything?

Anyways, a friend of mine from Japan who works with Nike is in Beijing at the moment helping with a few projects lined up for the Olympics. He sent me some similar photos and told me some of the Americans in their group had to run to the side of the road to chuck up because they couldn't stand seeing what was being cooked. haha.
