Re: Zombine's DC2 tidy-up / rebuild 29/9/09 - More updates! Built turbo engine on the way?

Small quick update, All pistons have been cleaned and tops have been polished, and are going back in the block which has been re honed to remove a little bit of surface rust from when i degreased it after it had been glass beaded. Block will be put back together by myself (first time ) with new bearings and rings, and a slightly thicker headgasket will be put in to lower the C/R a little. A new oil pump will find its way into the mix along with all the usual rebuild bits (water pump, tensioners etc etc). Block and head will both be skimmed to make sure the surfaces are nice and flat to ensure a good seal of the HG.

Some pieces have been painted ie, vtec solenoid as shown in picture, Some have been polished.

Throttle body was lightly pulled apart and cleaned, had alot of oil gunk in one of the intake runners and had gone up to the back of the throttle plate.

Intake manifold will be painted and then re-assembled, "banana" style manifold will be kept for the time being, and as its a 2 piece manifold (IAB's have been removed), all 8 runners (where it joins) have been matched up and smoothed off with a flap wheel on a die grinder Some pieces were off by as much as 4 - 5mm. Manifold just needs to be port matched to the head. Intake runners still need a bit of smoothing off, That's all thanks to my flap wheel on my die grinder running out of life

All bolts / Bungs / Sensors / Senders have been wire buffed so their like new, Some bolts will be replaced with cap screws (ie, intake manifold bolts).

The head is awaiting new pieces from all over the place, Original valve spring seats will be cleaned and put back in (have been checked for wear), Original valve guides are being kept as they are still in good condition (No play in valve stem), Valve stem seals are being replaced with genuine oem items from honda, Stock rockers have been cleaned, oiled and wrapped and are ready to be put back in, LMA's have been cleaned, oiled and wrapped and are also ready to be put back in, Valve springs and retainers will be replaced with those of the Blox brand, Cams are still undecided as of yet, whether I will run stock for the moment and upgrade later down the track.

    Heres some pics.

Pistons before I got serious about cleaning them up All the oil stains around the gudgeon pins have been cleaned off with a spray we have at work called "power tune", its a carburettor cleanor thats designed to remove carbon from inside carby'd engines

One of the pistons all clean and polished up The rest fo them are identical to this ones condition
