Hi guys, I was looking through most of the build threads and I came to a conclusion that I should have one of my own as well. However, I’m not mechanical minded so I cannot do most of the engine work so this thread might not be as interesting compared to most of the build threads that is already been done. I have been in this community for a few years now and I have met a lot of friendly people and a lot of hands were offered to help with any problems that I have had. A little bit of my car history was all started since I was in high school when I saw an Integra driven passed me when I was on the way home. At that moment, I told myself that I wanted that car!My first car ever driven by me was a family car, 1998 Toyota Corolla and my first official car is a 1997 1.6L Integra Ti and I love the car. After a while of owning the car I have noticed there were so many different versions of integras. So I slowly build up deep pocket and went from an ordinary 1.6L Integra up to a 1998 Integra SiR and then finally to my dream car an Integra Type R. This car was imported back in August 2006 with a grade of 3.5/5.0 and I bought it from the dealer on the 21st of December 2006 just before the Christmas
The car was a completely stock, the only modification that was was done to the car was the stereo system and the speakers and most importantly I’m the first owner of the car in NZ
Here are a couple of shots of the car when I have just got it.
Compression test was performed by Paul (2shity) and the results were 245 250 250 240. All the mechanical parts were also tested and checked. It is strange that I should actually do that before purchasing the car. But at least it turned out fine
Things that I have already done to the car are:
- Mongoose M60B Alarm (4 Star)
- Gizzmo Dual Stage Shift Light
- Lucas Heavy Duty Battery
- NGK Spark Plug Lead Cables
- NGK Iridium IX Spark Plugs
- J’s Racing Style Air Duct
- J’s Racing Style Intake
- Lightweight Vision Racing Wheel Nuts
- Aftermarket 4>2>1 Extractors
Things that I have just done recently are:
-Install 98spec HID headlights
First, I would like to thank Matt (DURTYEF3) for shining me some light to initiate this conversion and Darryl (CRRUPT) for the final touch-up. Here is a little write-up I have done on this HID conversion and also for future references if anyone is keen to convert their non-HID to HID ones (source: http://honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=2195061). Basically, you just need to add one extra wire into the brown connector from your headlights connection. The non-HID has the brown connector with only 4 wires attached to it and the HID connector has 5 wires attached to it. Before getting to this stage, you will need to jack up the car and remove the front bumper in order to remove the non-HID headlights and we will start this conversion on the Driver’s side’s headlight. Once you have done that, it should look like this.
Now, you will need to cut off the two wires from the white connector (red and black wires). The red wire from the white connector is known as the “extra wire” that you will need to add into the brown connector and the black wire which is also from the white connector is known as ground and that can be joined with the rest of the ground wire in the brown connector.
Once you have connected up the red and the black wires from the white connector into the brown connector. You should have something like this:
Make sure that you solder the wires together and heat wrap it to prevent any disconnection from the vibration of the car while driving and that’s basically done for the driver’s side. Moving onto the passenger’s side, this can be a little trickier. A lot of people have been saying that it is a straight fit between the non-HID ones with HID ones, which I think the statement is only half correct. The reason for that is I found out that there were two main things that were blocking the access of the passenger’s side’s headlight. There were the air condition line and the washer bottle. In order to complete this conversion, you will need to dissemble the passenger’s side air condition line, meaning you will lose all the air condition gas. Once you have leaked out all the gas, then you can dissemble the air condition line and bend it gently so you can re-route the air condition line in order for the HID box to get into place. Finally, adjustment of the washer bottle is also needed; you will need to use a heat gun to melt the middle section of the washer bottle in order for the HID box get fully in place. Because I’m very picky on how things look, therefore I have got some second hand 98spec washer bottle and 98spec air condition line from Adam (ELVTEK FBI ALK) also known as (MMJA) ex-James 2000 ITR-X. If you can get these two items then this job can be done very easily. Basically, 98spec washer bottle has a flexible top half of the section so that it doesn’t get in the way of the HID box.
The differences between the 96spec and 98spec air condition lines are the route of the lines. Again, because I’m very picky so I got myself a 98spec one, see pic below. The top one is from 96spec (which was already bend for the HID to fit (which is a very tight fit) and the bottom one is the original one from 98spec, which doesn’t required bending of the line.
Now you can see there is a big gap on the right side for the HID box to go in.
When the HID headlight is in, make sure it is lined up properly. Then install back the front bumper and that is about it… yay!
I hope I have covered most of the things. This is my first official thread and hope it can be used for someone and it is also my build thread as well!If you have any question about the HID conversion, please feel free to fire me with questions or get me for help. Also, I have just write this up very quickly, so if there is any grammatical errors (which I think it will have) please excuse me as English is not my first language. Hope you enjoy it
