Updates... engine bay is all welded and ground and is currently shot in primer. Looks good.
Doors have been painted and are hung. Just waiting for the bay work to be sanded back then it'll be painted and rubbed back/wet sanded/buffed.
Car will be all done and trailored back to my place this Friday.
Couple progress shots from last night. Work was finished and car painted laaaate last night:

pm'd nancy boy.
Edit: Oh yea I dropped the front X member down a bit last night to mask things better and removed the front struts, one of which has pissed its oil everywhere grrrrrr D2! Be suprised if theres more than 1000km of use on them. The rest of the time theyve been hanging out with no motor even in the car.
See what the warrenty has to say or I might rebuild the Zeals...
Looks good, did you leave enough holes to mount the motor?
Your gonna mask off the crossmember huh? Looking forward to seing the paint finished and all the parts being added
three dohc vtecs and a partridge in a pear tree...
Looking good man, have fun fairing it up! And dont cock up the final paint like I did, after all that sanding you wont want to do it again![]()
theres still a couple floating around.Originally Posted by David R
Yep I didnt want it the same as the car but I wanted it painted where it bolts up. The grey that was in there orginally didnt extend down far enough so you could still see red.Originally Posted by berman
Ill paint he x member black.
Haha well too late now its all painted. The car got wet sanded, compounded and buffed last night and the bay is getting done today then a final fit and align tonight and trailored home around 7pm.Originally Posted by doo0T!doo0T!

^Haha cool.
Got the car home about 8:30 last night. Still a few bits left to go like repainting the mirrors, finishing the bay off and reassembly and aligning.
If its fine out ill take some pics at lunch. I must warn though that I had to raise it right up so it looks all kinds of disgusting

Nah I felt Ill doing it too![]()
The front is wayyy up there, the back is a not quite as high. Yea raised it because the rear bumper would drag its ass on the ground other wise.
The wheel colour is gonna be either satin black. gloss black or a bronzey kinda colour from the work wheel. Im leaning more the satin black myself. White is certainly poos with the car colour.
Heh and I found that BOTH front D2's had dropped thier oil, not just one, sweet!
^ could be but Ive got some serious problem to deal with before then.
Had a squiz round the car with ants at lunch and some areas are awesome, exactly as I wanted and the paint on the whole is awesome the colours great and its, for the most part, smooth like glass.
In saying that more time needs to be spent on the finishing touches and theres some areas in teh bay that, at the moment, I cant see being rectified without some pretty hefty modifications. Maybe when I have some input from the painter it wont be that bad but to my untrained eye it looks like a major to fix.
Right now Im super dissapointed after the amount of money and time (especially the latter) that has gone into it that not only did I give lunch a miss but I couldnt bring myself to take pics of it so sorry but you lot miss out, for now.
Huh? I dont mean to rub salt in the wound but what happened? Did the hairy not spend enough time on the business end of a sanding block?Originally Posted by Hayce
If it makes you feel any better about imperfections under the bonnet remember that when you start filling the bay up again things get a little less noticable.
The fish eyes on my paint were a complete abortion, I nearly skulled a litre of acetone and went quietly to sleep after I saw the mess, but once the engine and plumbing and everything went back in it got a lot less offensive.
Sure you can still see the fish-eyeing but it sort of gets lost in the bling now.
I hope it turns out ok for you. I know how you feel when things can go bad after a lot of time and effort, the money wasn't the prob it was the fact that I really couldn't be arsed doing it again after rubbing all the pads off my fingers on the sandpaper and inhaling half a kg of bog dust.
Your a bit of a perfectionist I can tell so I'm sure to anyone else looking at it it'll be awsome.![]()
bro sounds bad, i hope it isent as bad as u say.
i know how u feel tho, my first paint job was shit, as it was sprayed unevenly and patchy on one side
hope ur painter is a good cunt and sorts u out.

Doot!Doot!: Yea youre probably spot on and I have taken into account what will and wont be visable when the motors in there and Im still coming up short in my view.
Basically whats happened (IMO) is 6 months worth of work has been crammed into 3 long ass nights and it shows. The exterior of the car probably isnt really that bad at all. To me Id say it just requires more time finishing the paint IE removing orange peel. I mean I know its not finished but still it should be! Im reasonably confident the exterior will be fine when completly finished (theres still trims to fit mirrors to paint etc so a way to go yet). IMO more time is needed wet sanding the paint smooth.
My problem with the bay is specifically the horizontal sides behind the head lights and the right hand side of the firewall where the fuse box and loom use to go. There will be nothing in these spots when the car is together and in these spots the prep under the paint just dosnt look up to par and it shows through the paint. The paint is also super unforgiving, quite dark and shiney as fuck so everything stands out like dogs balls (to me at least).
On a good note, the colours pretty nice haha...
Ill swallow some pride and take some pics later today so you can see what I mean.
This aint my first "rodeo" so to speak, Ive had paint done before which is why I know when Im happy and I know when Im not. Certain paint shops no Im a right cunt and thats cool, I am when it comes to people doing work for me.Originally Posted by xsiv
Im sure we will sort something out, I made it plainly clear what I wanted and how I wanted it. I provided clear and detailed pics of what I was trying to achieve and there was no miscommunication along the way.
