The missus had a fan problem with her EF7 too, I had to jump the pressure switch for the air con system (loop a wire across) before the fans would actually work again. I could also turn the fans on by just turning the heater on inside the car (air con switch engaged)

oh yeah and i dont have coolant lines to my turbo so couldnt have been that with my car. may be worth looking into still tho, i know you guys say your gauges were shit but you cant say my power fc was shit and it was telling me exactly the same thing. does the dash gauge and a/m gauge or power fc pick up readings from the same point? one of those things aye.. dont want your car running cold but id bet youd prefer it to be on the cold side than the hot...
I have a alloy rad which is probly 40mm thick and just the same half size as the normal ones.
I have asked andre about it and he said try the water wetter (because it overheats on the track, and i dont think the thermostat can flow enough to cool it proplerly), so i will let you guys know how it goes this monday (Manfield trackday).
I was also thinking that maybe the radiator is not getting enough air flow to it? so i will be running at manfield without a bumper (bumper is quite restrictve).

hmm yeah hard to say.. ask andre bout the hole in the thermostat trick. my car runs about as hot as 72degrees, max out at 82degrees going up a big ass hill. that would explain to you why my thermostat wasnt opening.. switching point is 82degrees??

the size of the vent in the front of your car is huge compared with mine lol

yeah, i cant seem to get the temp down on the track tho im sure it would run cooler without the thermostat than with the thermostat on the track?

yeah id ask about the no thermostat thing tho aye, sounds real dodgy.. my car got no hotter than 80 on the dyno and my manifold is right behind my radiator!! and if anyone saw pics or vids from autosalon they would have seen my mani glowing like lava and still no probs.. if you think about it no thermostat is the same principal as holes in it, thing is tho with the holes you still have a thermostat metering flow to an extent but its also being bypassed at the same time, instead of going on about it just ask andre.. he knows

removing the thermo is a BAD idea as your water temp will end up too cold when not under load which means you will have hot oil and cold water which means hot expanded pistons and cold shrinking sleeves which reduces piston to bore clearence and well that usually just ends up in tears. How much space is between the radiator and intercooler? it should either be back to back with very little gap or at least 6 inches apart with a duct between them. This is because the air running through the intercooler pulls apart and tumbles out the other side , if the radiator is right up close to it then it doesnt tumble much and will flow nicely through the radiator cooling it efficiently. If there is say only a 2 inch gap then the tumbling air wont flow cleanly through the radiator and wont cool properly , if a gap of 6 inches or so is left it gives the air time to settle back down and merge into a clean flow again , just remember the duct between the two so as the air cant flow around the radiator.

my water temp stays the same when im just driving at 100k so that is sweet, if i put the clutch in a roll down a big hill, the watertemp goes right down.

Also i fixed the overheating problem on the track, the rad was obviously not getting enough air. I had the bumper off when i was racing at Manfield and it stayed around 85deg's 8)

o.k well this is it enough bloody hitting the piss and partying I need to get back to the shed and finish this project.

This weekend i pick up the finished exhaust parts, they were out at dad's getting the threaded lugs for the sensors added while i was on holdiday (dad is a good bastard)
I'll heat paint them up with some of the zinz based corrosion inhibiting heat paint and get the heat wrap on which will take a while there's a lot of wrapping to do!!
I also think I'll fit my CSL rally cams and skunkworks camgears while I'm at it.

I plan to have it running by the end of this weekend, the neighbours are going to love the 800mm of straigh 3" pipe!!!
Hopefully i find out why the Mallory 6aL and Turbolink are not letting ignition signal through it's bloody frustrating!

Been a good weekend, got it all finished and fitted up.
Exhaust temp sensor is wired up and the gauge seems to be operating properly for once!
Got the radiator put back in and the cooling system re-bled, thermostat seems to be working fine again and the temp stayed within acceptable range, fan still didn't kick in, i think i'll bridge the switch and see if it's a wiring problem or not.
Heres a few pics + vids, dont laugh at my Gaffer tape intercooler conections I am still waiting for my silicone joiners to get here!
It's having trouble idling at a steady speed with the light flywheel, idle is all over the show with the ecu constantly trying to correct things, ECU is not throwing any codes, everything seems to be operating o.k.
I never got time to fit the cams and pullies, it'll have to wait
I'm really happy with the way the heat wrap came up, I have put abrasion resistant kevlar fabric in a few places too like on the bottom of the down pipe so when it bottoms out it doesn't rip off all the fibreglass tape and on the dump pipe where the clutch lever slightly rubs on it.
I also found that by using the three port boost solenoid, the turbo link can actually open and close the wastegate, before the solenoid opens it fills one side of the diaphram forcing the valve shut, when the solenoid clicks open it fills the other side forcing it open, it also opens the wastegate on over-run by vacuuming the diaphram open.
I think the shitty old VR4 intercooler looks like shit now that everything else is so sweet, I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and get a decent one made further down the track.
The EGC valve is leaking quite a bit of air past, even with it shut the noise coming out of the dump pipe is quite audible, when it's open it's very audible
    Anyway here's the pics....
    The wrapped headers.

The EGC valve with heat wrap either side.

The control slide in the cabin for the EGC.

The down pipe going under the sump and joining up with the flexijoin. The yellowish patch on the bottom is the Kelvar cloth.

    My little helper.....

    All plumbed up(ish)

    The mighty dumpy

    Bumper re-fitted.

Couple of vids of it running, sorry i dont rev it much I was worried about the neighbours (this is with the EGC valve shut, it sounds mental with it open)

Easy, I just take it off and bolt a capping plate on the flange where the EGC valve bolts on.

You can have a drive dude.
I wont make the trackday, as a driver anyway, I've got two weekends of weddings coming up and no time to work on the car, there's no hurry there's always another track day.

I heaved out my recliners this weekend and bolted in my new carbon buckets, they look the tit's in the car, pics still to come.
I'm digging the all black theme which has developed, I think I'll black out the IC too until I get a nice new one in the future.
At the moment they are mounted on the sliding rails and they are a bit too high for my liking, I might have to chop out the ribs on the floor to get the seats sitting down properly low. They are ok at the moment but my head just touches the roof with my helmet on. (yes i sat there like a tosser with my helmet on making engine noises)

I think I found my wiring problem with the mallory and Link, I had taken the ignition input from the coil +ve wire instead of the ECU igniter signal by mistake, (i hope it didn't fry the turbolink)
My battery went dead flat so I couldn't start it up again, it's on charge now, I might have another go tomorrow.
Clamplink is all wired up, the only thing left to wire now is the throttle position sensor wire on the Turbolink but thats a 5min job and fix the seals on the supra injectors, i think the o-rings have perished and there's a but of a serious fuel leak under pressure.
With all this leaking fuel it got me nervous so i bought a metal bracket fire extinguisher which I thik I'll bolt to the floor on the passengers side.

I've got to get my ass in gear and get it out to Beyond for a tune before Mark leaves for his OE.

    Woooo hooo hooo !!!
    This thing is fast.

I finally sorted out what the problem was,........ no fuel!!!!
As I'd changed the pickup and taken out the internal fuel pump etc I was slurping air off the top of what small amount of fuel was left in the tank.

I also sorted out my Mallory, the ignition system now spits out a fat orange spark about a half and inch long. The Malpassi seems to be working fine again now that there is steady fuel arriving at the rail.

I pulled out of the drive way (with the dump wide open :twisted and gave it about 1/2 throttle up rautangi road, through 1st and second only letting it build to about 5psi and it shoved me back into my seat quite violently, and it went way harder than I was expecting. The blow off valve is loud as hell. and the short gear ratios combined with the short shift is awsome.
Honestly it's like a wild animal and sounds like one too.

I took it down to the new gassy in Mount Eden and the indian dude at the counter told me "Your car looks like rocket science"

I'm so stoked, I'll be ringing Beyond tomorrow, it's nearly time to wrap this up.
