    Dieter's EK9 Build: Certification

Finally got myself a decent paying job over the Uni holidays, and saved up for my dream car, EK9 civic! Bought it for a pretty reasonable price up in auckland, and boy was it a great drive back to Wellington.

    1997 EK9 Type R civic.
    188xxxkm when bought.

    Current Modifications:

    - Whale penis + cheap repco air filter.
    - Lowered suspension (poo jamex springs)
    - Wee stereo
    - XForce Headers
    - Nology Leads
    - Painted Rocker Cover
    - Cheap GP Thunder headlight bulbs.
    - Password JDM: Rear Strut
    - Password JDM: 3 point Front Strut Brace

Pretty standard which Im happy with

    Condition:

Interior great condition, all standard except radio. No rips in seats, fairly decent for the age and Km.

Exterior a bit rough, some reasonable ding on front bumper, and a couple of scratches on the rear bumper. Except that the body is nice and straight.

Engine runs good, although does smoke. Have done a couple of tests but haven't done a final diagnoses, but at this stage we'r assuming its either rings or valves.

Cheers to the guys for the advise

    http://nzhondas.com/forum/tech-help/...eals-what.html

Im still reasonably young, and to be honest I don't know a lot about the technical and engineering side of cars, I know the basics. But Im very willing to learn, and I couldn't ask for a better car to learn on.

First picture, the day I picked it up after a quick wash.

2nd DIY Job: Raising the rear spoiler.

It wouldn't be true DIY if you didn't make it yourself, so me and a mate went for it and made some brackets to raise the rear spoiler. They are not a piece of art, but Im happy with them, and love the outcome!

    Yuck with no spoiler!

I recommend changing your img tags not to show thumbnails. I think you need to copy the img copy when the image is full size in your album.

    Fixing up some exterior damage:

So the bumpers are scuffed here and there, the biggest damage is on the front bumper where it actually cuts in to the bumper.

Any opinions on the best solution of getting it fixed?
I was thinking of giving it a wee sand, some primer and then colour match it, pretty basic but any advise appreciated.

Smoking Test: We found some oil around the spark plugs

and assumed decided to see if the Rocker cover wasn't properly sealed after it was painted by the previous owner.

From what I understand it could be caused by a range of things like the rocker cover not properly sealed, piston rings... not sure what els?..valves... lol

...anyway so i decided to see if it was the rocker cover leaking. Because the previous owner painted the rocker cover, there is a chance he didn't seal it properly. As this was an easier repair than pistons I decided to do this first and see what the result is.

Head all opened up and rocker cover cleaned out and sealed.

Yep was running 10w 40, but since service iv been running on 15w 40 just to have a slight thicker oil for if it is rings or valves. Although still smoking.

Shit first person in porirua to own a ctr?

So looking to up the CC's when you open the motor up? Or just rebuild the b16b?

Also, ditch aircon.... you know you want to

Get a leakdown and compression test done, that will give you a bit more of an idea of the condition of the motor.

Are you burning oil as well?

Mmmmm first person with a LEGAL CTR in porirua Im assuming?

Um at this stage im undecided, I stil have alot of research to do, questions to ask and decisions to make about what upgrades will benefit me. In the mean time im saving up. So unsure, but any recommendations for upgrades is appreciated, teach me people

Is that something that can make u fail wof? like removing aircon, doing a minor wire tuck just to clean up the engine bay abit? etc

Done a compression test, happy with the results there. Averaged about 220 across all 4. Although, I understand that just because the test that I did indicates the compression is good, it doesn't mean that the rings are ok. Correct? Due to the oil rings might be buggerd but the compression rings might be fine.

If a compression test indicates good compression, can a leakdown test still indicate some sort of damage on the rings?

    Taken from a website:

"The neat thing about a leakage test (as opposed to a compression test) is that it's faster and easier to figure out where the pressure is going. If you hear air coming out of the tailpipe, it indicates a leaky exhaust valve. Air coming out of the throttle body or carburetor would point to a leaky intake valve. Air coming out of the breather vent or PCV valve fitting would tell you the rings and/or cylinders are worn."
