    Re: Dieter's EK9 Build: Stock-take

Kia ora lads, been a while since an update.
I haven't done to much to the car, mainly just collecting parts.
By now I would of liked to have the car certed, but due to overnight parts from japan taking longer than it should, it wont happen for a wee while.

    Parts I have collected.
    Dress up bolts.

I decided its time to stop being silly buggers, and put back the factory headlights.

    Blox rear LCAs.

    Blox rear camber arms.
I have bought some front ones as well, but they are taking longer than it should, which is the only thing im waiting for before getting cert.

    Blox Magnetic Sump Bolt

Benen tow hook, cos im a ultimate racer.

    Rays Nuts

This is where shit gets a wee bit exiting..
Ages ago I saw some wheel on some I speedhunter website and quite liked it.. never saw it again.
Until recently when 2 of the same wheels popped up on Trademe, I then started hunting for 2 more to complete the set.

I spoke to Alex from MLRacing about bringing 2 more over from the motherland. That same night I got a Pm from Muu, he found 2 wheels listed on Yahoo Japan under some random section, perfect offset, perfect width. Puurrrfect.
Over the next couple of days, I bought the 2 on trademe and secured the other 2 with the help of Alex.

    They are Volk Rays GTU.
From what I understand they are the Gen1, and the more common GTU you see around etc is the Gen 2.

    Volk Rays GTU Gen2

The 2 I bought in NZ are in fairly decent condition, mainly just needs a good clean polish and the centers repainted.

    The 2 I got in NZ are 16x8 + 40, and the 2 coming from Japan is 16x8 +35.
    Other 2 from japan.

Condition is a wee bit worse on these, mainly scuffs no buckles.
Plan is to be refurbed all 4 once they arive.

I test fitted the first to on the front, very happy with how it looks.
Cant wait for the other 2 to arrive, MLRacing are still filling the container so I have been advised it will be mid year-ishhh.

    Cant wait

Today was also the STM dyno day.
Was a good outing, nice people and smashing weather.

I ran the civic. It didnt blow up. YUS.
I dont know anything about dyno graphs so I wont jabber on about "I want stable increase in the XY marginal lines..".
I was basically happy with any results around the 115kw mark.

Below is the print outs, Im more that happy with the results.

    Video of dyno to come.

Overall, been good. Just need to get the front camber arms, install that shiz and get a cert.
To finish of the post, heres some clevage.

    Cheers
    Dieter

    Re: Dieter's EK9 Build: Suspension

Quite possibly the best ending to a build thread post ever.

I really like those wheels, will suit the car perfectly imo

Will you be putting the Japan ones of the front and ones you have now on the back? I have 7.5" wide wheels with around +35et and they fit the front fine, back has needed the guards to be rolled and a decent amount of camber.
    Thats on a DB8 which I imagine is similar to a EK9

    Re: Dieter's EK9 Build: Suspension

    Haha cheers
Im stoked to have been able to get the ones in NZ, and the help from Alex.

At this stage not sure, looks wise I think I would like the japan ones on the front.
I spoke to GruppeM about the wheel fitment, he has a similar set up on his Ej7. IIRC the has the wider ones on the front, and needed to roll the guards quite a bit, but only needed a little bit of work needed on the rear.

I think either way the guards will need to have some work done, I just need to decide which way I want to go with it looks wise, and then make it work.

    Re: Dieter's EK9 Build: Suspension

I have some cheap linglongkingstar 205/45s that ill test out. If they cause to much of a issue, then ill look in to something smaller like a 195. Not really after a stretched tyre, but im assuming a 195 is still reasonably ok on a 8inch rim?

Done, I shall wait for his reply.

    Dyno video up:
    Run1: 1.13 - 1.30
    Run2: 1.55 - 2.10
    Run3: 2.38 - 2.50

(Each run was used with different microphones so some are louder than others)

Mine passed cert like that and has passed 3 WOF's since but in saying that there is nowhere on the wheel that states its width so they just assume its fine

    Re: Dieter's EK9 Build: Stock-take

for a cert the most you can get away with with a 195/45/16 is a 7.5in rim

you will need a 205/40/16 if you are running an 8in rim

this is the bible for tyre sizes now when it comes to certs:

    Re: Dieter's EK9 Build: Stock-take

    Cheers DCV1N

Regarding tyre size and cert. The Volks are still 3-4months away and Im hoping to get the cert done in the next month, so ill be using the ITR rims with 205/45.

Im aware that when I cert the car ill be certing it to specific rims size, 16inch in this case. Although I didnt tiink the width mattered, for e.g if I cert it on 16x7 rims, and I put 16x8 rims on and go for a wof, it shoudnt be an issue?

    Re: Dieter's EK9 Build: Stock-take

im pretty sure they include width, and from just looking at my cert plate it has width on it

i believe width matters because you could go from a 16x5.5 to a 16x10 and it will greatly affect the handling of the car (extreme example) but because they are certifying your car as a low volume vehicle they can only say the vehicle was safe in the configuration that you have it tested at.

as far as i can find you can have more than one size of wheel on the cert plate as long as they meet the in service requirements

    Re: Dieter's EK9 Build: Stock-take

Aw yep, I think iv seen a cert plate where its been certed for 2 different rim options. Ill have a chat to the certifier to see what I need to go through to get it certed for with 7 and 8 inch rim, and then make a note about it here as well.

    Cheers for that H_D
