My very slow DA6 build thread - Re-paint Finished

So, been a while since i've updated this, uni has been hectic as its nearing the end of the semester... Anyway, last weekend my mate came over to spray the car, as soon as he came over he said to replace my suction fed gun with a gravity fed one. We picked one of these up for $100 from supercheap auto, I though was a pretty decent price.

We had enough paint left to do 3 coats plus a technique coat which was what we were hoping for.
Mate started spraying the clearcoat but wasn't sure it was a very good clearcoat so he suggested getting me some better stuff from work. Plan was to use the 2k clear from his work instead of the lacquer but in the end we decided not too because we weren't sure if it could be used with lacquer paint.
Monday I got to work spraying the clearcoat onto the car trying to get as many layers as possible, I ended up getting 6 and a half coats out of what I had left, I was hoping for 6 so was pretty happy with what I got.
    After clearcoat:

Car all put back together and had a wax and polish:

While the cars been off the road getting painted I was able to save for my new tyres which I need for my WOF. I called around a few places and eventually found some tyres I wanted within my price range. I ended up purchasing a pair of Bridgestone MY01's in 205/40r17 for $165 each from Rowes Tyres on Rosebank road. A friend had these tyres on his Type R and they were very good!
    Pics:

I can finally get rid of these crappy Triangle Tyres and my damaged rim

    New tyres on:

I took the car for a quick test drive and these tyres grip way better in the wet than my Triangles gripped in the dry! I'm pretty happy about this!

I also finally got around to removing my faded tints which had gone purple.

    Before:

    After:

Looks heaps better in my opinion, looked cheap with the purple ones.

Now I've got my front tyres sorted all I need now is to get my headlights aligned for my WOF, this is getting done tomorrow and then back to VTNZ for a recheck! Here hoping its ready for next Thursdays Meet-up

That's all for today, will let you know how the WOF check goes etc.
I'll also try and get some better pics of how the paint came out, current ones didn't have the best lighting in them.

Re: My very slow DA6 build thread

I've got a decent amount of things to include in today's update as I have been neglecting my build thread recently because of uni exams etc.
So, I've got my WOF now so that's all sorted.

I also picked up a whale penis for sale on the forums and got a silicon joiner with a 45 degree bend and it fits in there good.

I also picked up a little air breather for the rocker cover, I think it looks better than the hose going to the intake arm.

I also picked up a B16a2 intake manifold from an EK civic from forum member 91eg9 as it a tidier design, more info can be found here: Tidying up around intake manifold

So that's on and all the wires are hidden under it etc. I couldn't afford proper gaskets at the time so I made some out of gasket paper, I'm not sure how good it is but it'll do for now till I save for a decent I/M gasket.

When I did this I also did the coolant bypass mod, this bypasses the hoses that go through the throttle body and intake manifold, therefore making intake run colder once the engine has warmed up I still need some vacuum caps to block of the no longer used ports which are currently taped up good enough for now, there doesn't seem to be any vacuum leaks so it'll do until I find out where to buy vacuum caps.

The new manifold also had nowhere to put the FITV so I just left it off, once it was off I saw it was all rusted out inside anyway :/

Kinda hard to see, but the inside was full of rust!

Apparently this sensor goes in the intake arm on EK's, however in my DA it goes in the right most intake runner. I am going to extend this wire so I can put into the proper place later this week.
The sensor was screwed extremely tight into the old manifold and couldn't unscrew the screws. After the death of one of my screwdrivers I decided to just grind the head of the screws off with a grinder, that worked mint

I also scored a mint factory front lip from a mate for an old gen 1 bumper I had laying around. The lip was maroon so I sanded it back and primered it and just sprayed it with a cheap spray can haha, came out good though and I'm pretty happy with the result

Paid a visit to Pick-a-part the other day and had a frenzy pulling shit off of a DA5 that was there! I was there for quite a while haha.
    I picked up:
    New hydraulic boot struts

New door handle surrounds, mint passenger side, average drivers however its better than what I had

A blank for the bit on the side of the handbrake as there was a switch there ( other switch turns on the radiator fan)

Some blanks for here to get rid of the old alarm LED and to blank off the fog light switch which didn't work.
A new air vent, old one was pulled apart with a little tacho in it.

    Other things my horn.

New windscreen trims, one of my old ones fell off a little while after the car was painted

New cowl, this was mint and still had all the clips and rubber bits etc, old one had no ends on it and no rubber seal.

That's the most of the stuff I bought, Put it all on that day. Except for 1 thing, the boot struts. I couldn't put these on as the things they go onto had snapped off and fallen inside, one of them falls down every now and then but I can't get the strut on without pushing it back in, grrrr.

So these are currently still not in

I also painted the orange part of the dipstick black, looks quite good:

New battery, its second hand but its not very old so compared to my old battery that could no longer start the car its pretty good

I also picked up a baffle plate for my new sump from forum member 91eg9, he was very helpful and gave me lots off good information about my car etc

Got the baffle welded in today:

Sump will be going on this weekend with new oil and a new filter while I'm at it too.

A while ago my heater fan stopped working so I took it out to find it had rusted out :/ while it was out I took the behind dash air con box out too so there's a big gap there at the moment.
My plan was to remove the heater core altogether however now it is winter I'm hating having no heater, not just to keep warm but to demist the windows so I've bought a new fan from forum member ZCDA5 which will hopefully be here soon! Since there's no air con and I'm trying to save as much weight as possible while still being practical today I stripped out the old air con box and covered all the no longer used holes with pipe-wrap, that stuff is super sticky!

I know you can buy delete ducts, but this does the same thing and costs me nothing hahaha

I also bought a c pillar bar from forum member mt imports

That's all for today, a few more things to come soon!

Thanks man! Love working on this thing and don't mind getting my hands dirty haha. Can be a bit frustrating, but when everything comes together its great. Hopefully more updates early next week, trying to do as much as possible while it's semester break.

    17/72011 Update

Last Sunday I got onto putting the sump on after work, I finished work at 11:30 pm and me and a mate worked on the sump until the wee hours of the morning.

The extractors had to be dropped down to get to a few bolts and a bracket for the gearbox had to be undone to get the sump off the bolts.
The old gasket had gone kinda hard so just as well I got a new one!

It was interesting to see what was above the sump as I have never seen what is in there lol.
Around the bolts was cleaned up before the new gasket and sump went on.

Repco was having a sale that week and I managed to pick up 4 litres of oil for $28 I also got a brand new filter a mate had left over from his Integra.

New filter and sump went on and the new oil was put in. A bit more oil was needed however.

Super Cheap Auto were also having a sale so I decided to pick this fire extinguisher up:

    It was 25% off

    Mounted in car:

Early this week my heater fan also arrived!

Here's the state of the old one:

I took the glove boxes out and got to work putting this and my A/C delete box in, it all fitted up as it should have

The glove boxes stayed out for a while as both were damaged and they have now both been replaced.

    New glove boxes are in!

No more flying open when I go over bumps now!

I picked this front lower brace up from forum member 91eg9

I've heard a few people say they wont clear 4-1 headers but I thought I would try it anyway! it cleared the headers but there was no way it would fit because of a part of the gearbox:

I was kinda angry about this and after I hit my gearbox a few times with a rubber mallet I soon calmed down! lol

I thought however since it had adjustable ends that I would try it on the rear of the car. It fit!
So that's it's new home! lol

    More to come soon!

Re: My very slow DA6 build thread

A small update, nothing too exciting.
I picked up these things today:

-A bottle of 'Lifter free & tune up' just cause i've never used anything like that.
-Half a bottle of petrol injector cleaner from a mate.
    -Vacuum caps (finally)
-Some Auto body mould tape to put on the little boot lip I have.

Vacuum caps are on, and fluids are in the car!
I stuck the spoiler down with the body mould tape, works great! Photos up soon as it got dark before I could take any.

    That's all for today

It's funny how the small things all add up to make a huge difference,
awesome stuff dude, hopefully your car will run a bit better with the injector cleaner= less petrol used= more money for mods
keep it up man!!! and sorry if i missed it but i take it from the braces/sump baffle etc that you plan on tracking this car?
