So its an AE85, with a small port 4AGE, Supra W58 gearbox, Hilux rear w/LSD, white line sway bars front and rear, Kei Office Coilovers in the front, 9kg springs front and rear, AE86 brakes in the front and S13 brakes rear etc etc and thats pretty much the jist of it. Ive owned this for about 4 months now and only had it on the road for one of those... Been a bit of progress lately and thought I'd share it.
This pic was taken recently-ish, about the only pic I have of the whole car ATM unfortunately.
In that pic wheels have been swapped from front to rear and visa versa. The wheels picture on the rear have been sent to Gavin Bateman to have a new outer lip made to widened them 2". Im happy with the front fitment, for now.
After driving it for a few weeks I noticed there was a problem with the clutch not disengaging properly. Turned out the issue was at the pedal, as the previous owner tried to modify the factory AE85 pedal box to work with the hydraulic clutch. I ended up sourcing a AE86 pedal box from Japan and replaced the master cylinder too. Had to remove the whole dash to install the new pedal box, painted all the dash support and pedal box black as it was bare steel. Unfortunately no pics either.
Removing the dash led me to find another issue, which was the wiring. I ended up replacing the engine loom with another as the previous owner made a complete mess of it. I did a little wire tucking and I removed all the old wiring that was no longer needed and this is what I was left with:
It sat around not running for a while as I lost a bit of motivation. But recently I had help from my mate who is an auto sparky and now everything is wired up properly and it started and ran. Havent had a chance to drive it yet to see if there is any issues though.
How the interior has looked for the last couple months, and still does lol. Purchased the Bride reclinable as a passenger seat. In the process of making a rail for it.
I had to pull the tank out and re-route the fuel lines after removing the surge tank setup it had. Replaced the fuel pump while it was out, had to fabricate a bracket to hold it in the tank firmly.
Decided to remove the rear axle to check everything, glad I did too...Repainted all the diff links and sway bar brackets etc. I resealed the rear gaurds with POR15, which is a very durable rust preventative paint. Sent the diff to Tony at Steelie gears to have it shimmed, very tight now, pretty much locked. Now this I did manage to get pics of, sorta.
Gaurds:
Im pretty happy with the rear end now, minus a brake upgrade and probably look at doing a rear coilover setup or something. Oh and I'll look at fab'n a nicer exhaust for it.
Pic of the engine bay after a bit of a tidy up. Will be looking at replacing the radiator, and doing a proper oil cooler setup with a filter relocation also.
Spent a little time detailing the paint. Only did the front in that picture, it came up pretty good. Needs new paint all round, but this will do for now.
So now everything is up to date, while the interior is stripped out it will be going off to Herbert Fabrication for a 6 point roll cage within the next week. Will get pics of that as it progresses so stay tuned.
