    NSX Racecar build

    Hey all,

Well I know it's been a while, but discussions have been had with some NZH mods and we've all agreed to be grown up and leave the past in the past and move on so here I am

So things have progressed since I last posted and I finally have a car sorted and it's on it's way as we speak. I'll have a definate arrival date soon, but it's paid for and on it's way so that's the biggest thing !

Whilst I've been hunting the right car I've had a form of internet car shopping madness and each time I missed out on a donor car at auction it seemed to motivate me to purchase more parts !

Still all in all I've ended up with a big chunk of what I'll need once the car gets here !

I've managed to do a deal with a great company in the US who are bringing their time attack NSX over to Australia in May for the World Time Attack challenge and so are putting a whole load of parts in the container for my project and then I just need to get them back from Aussie to NZ so it will save me a whole load on freight costs !

I've got wide rear guards, side skirts, carbon bonnet, APR rear wing, Taitec undertray, centre exit exhaust system, a whole load of suspension parts to remove the rubber parts and give it some real feel and lock up the compliance front end on the NSX.

Got a 5 speed race prepped box with clutch and some other bits and peices also.........

STMPO who are working with FX Motorsport development to get their time attack car sorted are the ones supplying most of the parts and a few other people helping out here and there and they're a great bunch and very helpful with information and suggestions on where best to spend the money for the best results.

These are the rear guards I've got coming....... and side skirts to match..... front guards are different though. Basically the from the doors back is the same.

Oh and bonnet is the same as what I've ordered.

Went down to Racetech and have ordered some seats, belts, quick release steering hub and wheel and electronic fire extinguisher system for the car too so there's some more mods for you !!!

Not sure on delivery times yet, but probably about another 6-8 weeks depending on boat timing, but hey.....we're on the path now !

Car is 1991, just over 100,000K's and looks like it's very tidy .......... And it's red.....Oh yeah and did I mention it's mine !!! LOL !!

Seems these red NSX's are like buses.......... you wait for ever and don't see any then 2 turn up at once !

I've seen a red NSX floating around the hutt in the last couple of weeks and I've had a couple of people text me assuming it was mine......... anyone else seen it ?

Older guy driving it...... haven't seen the driver myself, but others have mentioned he's later in years !

When I saw the car it made me realise just how low and wide the NSX is relative to it's profile in photos........ can't wait !

When I lived in 'Wellywood' there was a red one owned by an indian dude who managed STA travel and the old Eagle Boys on Adelaide Road which I think turned into Dominoes.
It was raped mercilessly everyday so it's probably long gone now.

Can confirm, old guy drives it, drives it hard too, saw him pop into Hutt City Auto the other day, was sweet, had a perve then he f*cked off down the road and revved its tits off haha. I was like *Never seen an NSX this close up in a while* Looks good canman, can't wait to see progress. You mentioned you were getting wider rear guards, is it going to be an all round wide kit? Or just the rear? Taitec is tops too,, gonna be a dream build? With Admission Dynamics intake..nom nom

I've noticed they're pretty cheap in the UK, theres a black 91 ebay.co.uk there at the moment with 150,000k's for NZ$30k and an auto one with a cage and NOS for $23K
It costs $2000 to send a 20ft container from the UK to here dunno how that compares to Japan.

    Re: NSX Racecar build

Yeah, that's the base costs, but you've got GST to pay as well remember, plus some other costs which bump pricing up.

Given the great UK exchange rate at the moment it helps bring them closer, but I think you'll get a much better car from JP than the UK anyhow. I know it's aluminium, but the conditions in the UK on the roads and acid rain make mincemeat of even aluminium cars, just ask George !

    Re: NSX Racecar build

To be honest I haven't really even got down to the nitty gritty of any specific class it'll race in.

I used to race single seaters in the UK before I literally grew out of it and so haven't really raced since other than private trackdays so I'm looking to do trackdays to get the car sorted, then look at doing some basic club racing to help get some racecraft back and then I'd like to do the Targa, maybe the bambina as I think the money and skill required for the full thing is too much for me...... I want it to be fun.

Reality is though I'll just be doing whatever I feel like with it for a while till I feel comfortable with it. I'm less about being competative and more about having fun in a dedicated car rather than a compromised road car.

    Re: NSX Racecar build

It'll be road legal through the exemption rule so won't need any authority card.

Just getting on the list now so hopefully I'll get into this years 200 cars !

---------- Post added at 02:16 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:15 PM ----------

PS I'm going to be selling the seats and stuff if anyone wants to make an offer for them............

Got a few people who are interested so first in first served, but not sure they'll be most peoples cuppa tea, but you never know what projects there are out there that might want some official NSX seats !
