I had the bootlid of my 4 shaved, spoiler holes filled and lock filled.

Looked lots cleaner, personally i like the garnishes.

I'll keep an eye out for a bootlid for you.

Headlights as promised, will update this post with them fitted, and the black corner lights in, and the HIDs going to give people an idea.

Turned out pretty good, just used the same process as black housing EK ones.

I used the left over spray from the exhaust with some clear over it so its glossy, so yea it is high temp stuff, could prob use plain paint, the HIDs put out alot less heat that normal bulbs tho

Re: CP9A Lancer Evolution V Build

well the car has been sitting on blocks for the last week while waiting to find one valve stem that will fit the weds wheels so decided to take it off for a bit longer to get the majority of the motor done since I don't need to use it.

Ive bought a stainless dump pipe, shouldn't crack as it doesn't support any weight so It should be fine.

Also got a new 600x300x76 intercooler, will need to make up a brackets to bolt up to the OEM mounts but shouldn't be much hassle, its only a few mm thicker and higher than the OEM intercooler but a bit longer, will fill the gap in the bumper perfectly.

Also got some Autogage gauges, boost (PSI), water temp and oil press. Same ones as these:
YouTube - OPENING CEREMONY AUTO GAUGE

Will be mounted on the dash, and wired up red at night to match the OEM cluster and white during the day.

Also got an adapter for the oil pressure and water temp.

A new alloy radiator and silicone radiator hoses, will have to cut the upper hose for the water temp adapter.

Also a bunch of silicone hoses and joiners to tidy up the engine bay (all blue)

Also got new fluids for it (oil, oil filter, gearbox, rear diff, front transfer case, coolant) that will be done when the above are all installed.

Will be tidying up the bay a bit, painting up the radiator fan, the bodywork under the air filter, and some stainless nuts and bolts.

Will get some pics up when the parts arrive.

    Sounds good

my mate has just bought a silver evo 5 and a few of the mods you're doing are quite similar .

Can't wait to see it with the wheels all painted and fitted etc

will try and get some pics up as I go but the lighting in my garage is shit, tried to get the dump pipe off today, got to 3 of the 5 bolts but what a mission, no room to work with, if anyone has any tips let me know, started to repaint the radiator fan will finish it off tomorrow.

Im just trying to think, im having a mind blank and cant even picture it in my head. I was lucky half my bay had been removed or deloomed so i always had plenty of room.

Re: CP9A Lancer Evolution V Build

Well got a bit carried away today.

I was trying to get the O2 sensor and the one bolt holding on the dump pipe but no luck, didn't want to round them off so though, fuck it, will take the whole dam turbo off then.

So managed to get the whole turbo out, which was quite easy just fiddly with coolant everywhere lol. I got the dump pipe nut off but the O2 sensor is stuck in there good and tight, Ive tried everything to get it out, don't want to round the bolt so will take it to mechanic who should have a decent spanner to get it out.

While I was staring at the bay I thought, since the car is off the road and I don't need it I may as well do it once, im not doing this job again.

Ive been looking into exhaust manifolds and all I can find are cheap stainless ones that crack or mega baller ones. I did a bit of reading and decided to mount the external on the OEM manifold, like the Evo7 in NZPC a few months back. I didnt was the hassle of a cheap manifold cracking an having to pull it out and fix it all the time, and didnt see the point of spending a baller amount for the steam pipe manifold if im only using the OEM turbo, seemed a bit overkill, sure a proper manifold would be great if I upgraded the turbo but I don't see that happening to be honest.

My OEM manifold has a small crack in it so will get that welded up and a port for a 38mm Tial wastegate above all four exhaust ports, the manifold is split into two sections with two runners to each, so the port will need to be directly above all four runners. Need two bolts to block off the secondary air system thing and a cap to cover the other end on the intercooler piping. Clean the inside up with a dremel to improve the flow, will give it a blast in whats left of my VHT high temp black paint.

Will have to tack the wastegate flapper shut on the turbo to.

Oh the front pipe is HKS, found a tiny stamp hidden on it lol.

So other than the wastegate, will be doing what I already posted previously.

Will get some pics up tomorrow.

i have a stainless manifold here for an E5, im not using it. Has no w/g port though. But no cracks at all. Requires a polish up however and 1 bolt to block off the egr system... i lost 1 bolt.

If your interested, i dont want much for it.

If your going to use your oem manifold, make sure you get someone who can weld cast properly and get it braced, make sure its in the right place cause of the twin scroll turbo.

One thing that kills stainless manifolds is the vent above the manifold, rain can leak onto it when hot which is where the issues start.

hmm might pass on the manifold, if I do get a stainless one will get one made with a wastegate port on it.

There is a bracket that the front pipe bolts to the block so might run a brace there, I don't really want to have to weld anything to the block.

Yea the port for the gate will have to be above all 4 runners like I said above. pretty much in the center of the manifold.

will prob just weld the 4 small holes up just inside the manifold for the ERG, saves having to get bolts, would improve flow to.

Not many pics so heres some.

Found a plug for the intercooler piping to block off the ERG pipe, 19mm rubber chair leg courtesy of Para rubber and a hose clamp, perfect fit.

Polished up the compressor cover and painted the exhaust side on the Turbo with High Temp VHT paint. Turbo seems in very good cond, no play or oil coming out anywhere. Prob helps it been running very low boost.

Heres the best pic I could get of the front pipe, no room or light, turns out it is HKS, baller points +1

Took advantage of the sale a supercheap and bought all new fluids for it, will change them when the cars all back together. I nearly got stuck in a convo with some n00b kid who was telling me his stock turbo skyline runs 20psi...

Got a whole bunch of stainless bolts to tidy up the bay a bit, cost bugger all.

Also picked up a water temp adapter on special.

    oh forgot this one

The aftermarket indicators needed to be pushed in, while I was pushing it in I screwed through the plastic, the holes on the indicators are slightly off as you can see, the fitment is pretty good only problem is that they stick out about 3mm from where they meet the headlights but its barely noticeable. The fit around the bumper and guard perfectly.

I didn't use the hole on the indicator and screw into the headlights because I tired that on the other side first and theirs not enough 'meat' in the plastic on the headlight for the screw to hold to and it just pops itself out. This way the screw goes into the original mounting point.

Don't need to worry about baller manifold unless upgrading the turbo.

Is looking good. Just make sure you get the manifold done properly as said above.

My mate had a tidy evo which had a wastegate added on but the welds werent the best and after time I could see the manifold cracking getting worse and worse.

Could always try Sinco Customs, Mike did me a really good deal on my manifold, welds were like the money shot in your favourite porno

See my posts above in relation to the manifold, the reason im going with a external wastegate at this early stage is that upon pulling my turbo out the OEM actuator was seized/bent/stuff you name it, either way it was poked.

Not alot of progress over the long weekend, other than buying more crap for it I put the radiator fan back together, looks 100x better now, almost like new and changed the gearbox oil.

My dump pipe and intercooler arrived.

The Dump pipe was a joke, it bolted up to the turbo fine but the front pipe holes were way out, the join between the exhaust and wastegate was the size of a 10c coin rough as anything, the OEM cast one looks and will flow 100x better on the inside next this excuse of a pipe, not even worth getting pics up, that will teach me to buy something cheap, lucky it cost bugger all. Speed bump number 2 (first being the valve stems which im still waiting on)

I guess it could work fine if the wastegate join was tided up and the front pipe flange fixed but im not willing to put the time/effort into it

So decided to use the OEM dump pipe, gave it a blast with whats left of the VHT hi temp spray

Intercooler is fine on the other hand, Ive used these in the past without a problem, Ive read the stock one is good for 400hp but this core has much more volume than the OEM one. Plus the OEM ones go for good-ish coin. Not to mention looks way better and that's what its all about, right?

Just need to get a mount kit for it and it should be good. The size is not to much bigger than stock so should mount up to the OEM points ok.

    Anyway pics

Flame away if you want but im not paying 8-9 times the cost for a baller FMIC, maybe if it was for a good quality turbo yes, but this will suffice for my goals.

Also someone had drilled holes in the thermostat....explains why it was taking forever to warm up and when it did it never go above 1/4 so need a new one, anyone able to source one for me? part number MD345617 OEM Evo4-5 Thermostat for a 4G63, cheers

Should have my wastegate and exhaust manifold next week, wastegate will be a Tial 38mm item with a 1bar/14.5psi spring, will also need to sort a wastegate pipe out (might have to vent to atmo until I get other things sorted ) It should at least be running by then, able to be driven at least, that's if my wheels get sorted.

sell it (once my TM account is out of debt lol) nothing wrong with it, only a small dent in the bottom as you can see, no leaks and not many bent fins, inside has been cleaned out to. if you know anyone after one PM me.

Re: CP9A Lancer Evolution V Build

When i got my gsr/evo it wouldn't hold boost at all, had 2 bleed valve taps on it and would go straight to boost cut and past, 1st,2nd,3rd was 30psi and then 4th would cut out 18PSI.

So i got a 38mm tial and it just went like shit, i think the manifold i used (DSR) was just homo design and was simply poos.

Even when i had the wastegate on with a 7psi spring it wouldn't hold and would end up boosting all over the show, lost a lot of spool between gears as well.

Im sure being the law you will be plumbing it up eventually which should make it go a lot better.

Its a bit of a worry that someone drilled homes in the themostat, almost as if they are trying to hide an over heating issue of sorts.?

Also +1 for Sinco's manifolds, he generally has them on the shelf for evos and has life time guarantee on all his work.

Was the boost all over the show because of the manifold or vent to atmo? Ive been offerd a used turbonetics 42mm racegate for a good price, yay or nay? I havent heard of to many issues with vent to atmo boost problems, the valve should only open when it sees a set PSI so I cant see how atmo venting would change that? back pressure maybe?

Im fairly sure putting a wasegate on your twin scroll manifold will render the twin scroll useless. Will take longer to spool as a result.
You'll need 2 gates off the mani to do it properly or just the one gate mounted off the factory wastegate hole on the turbo.
My 38mm tial mounted properly was able to hold as low as 8psi on my race car.
Ive used the core of one of those cheaper coolers in my custom one and they are fine imho!

Ive read/seen many a twin scroll setup use a single gate off the OEM manifold with no problems, im not really concerned with spool time, as its a OEM turbo it doesn't take long anyway. Ive read there will be a drop in mid/low power due to taking away the divider inside the manifold that separates the 2 sections that feed into the turbo but at least the WG port feeds off all 4 runners evenly and not just 2. But getting the gate setup right means a whole new manifold = baller $$ and what's the point if your only keeping the OEM turbo? may as well change the whole lot, which again = $$. My internal gate was rusted/seized/bent, the shaft would not go up and down properly. Sure I may upgrade in the future, at least I won't have to get a new wastegate when i get a manifold, turbo, water and oil lines, dump pipe, intercooler pipe, intake....the list goes on so that's why im sticking with the OEM turbo for the time being. As for the cooling issue, the car shows no signs at all of gasket failure, unless there's something else wrong with it im yet to find...
