    BB6 S-Spec Build. 5/2: Worlds Most Convoluted Voltmeter Install

    True to form, the stuff I'd said I'd do in my last post never happened.

    I did run a little exhaust wrap over the top half of the headers which I got from PRO Wholesale. The wrap started off life black but has turned white over the course of a couple of months. I'm still working on modifying the stock heatshield then getting it coated, but it's not an easy fitment over the Hytech header.

    Here a pic of nothing much;

    The other thing I've been procrastinating over is a radar detector I bought from a member for next to nothing.

    Now I am aware that radar detectors are becoming more and more pointless as the polices' technology improves, but since I'd gone to the trouble of buying it, I thought I'd better use it.
    I'm not a fan of things stuck onto windscreens, mostly because it a) Invites thieves to smash your window, b) Gives the 5-0 the impression you make a habit of speeding (which isn't the case for me).
    Therefore, the only solution was to find a place in the car where it could be permanently mounted.

    After hunting around, it appeared the easiest place to mount the radar was going to be in the headliner.

    Which looked promising, but would require some cutting and modification.

    With the detector mocked up in the position it would stay in, this raised the question: How would I see the screen or get access to the buttons on the detector?

    The 'solution' would require me to remote mount both of them in in a visible position.
    The stock prelude clock seemed to fit the requirements, and was essentially redundant because, who needs a clock anyway?

    Next step was to hack up the radar to retrieve the screen, speaker and momentary switches.

    And then modify the clock to our needs;

    Finally, the center of the interior lights was cut out so the radar detector could fit, and the switch used for the center lamp was hardwired to the radar to turn it on/off.

    And here's the final product (the Escort X50 has an option to display Volts when not picking up a radar/laser signal).

    And from outside (I'm still pissed I forgot to paint the new rear view mirror windshield mount black Fuuuu!!)
