Ive had issues with the AT when trying to lower it. Ill wait for you to do it and see what the best way is. I have lowering springs in the rear which are 'just captive' according to WOF checker but the fronts have nowhere enough travel in the shocks, keeps bottoming out everywhere![]()
^ lowering springs don't even make that much difference tbh, I had them in my last 1G Crx, and it still looked like a tractor...
Wheels look a lot better bro!
Sorry to add the photo here but this is how the AT sits with lowering springs in the rear. Would really like the front to match. Im happy with this height.

Loving the CRX dude, oldskool is where its at!!
I used to have a 1st Gen Integra with Torsion bar front and spring rears, problem you will run into after lowering the rear too much is that the front can only come down as far as the shocks let it. My integra used to be on bump stops in the front and had about 2" of travel in the rear - ask David R what it was like to ride in.
Either way I have seen your previous builds and I'm lookin forward to what you will do with your new ride.
Yea man 14", they were blue as well. No idea what brand, were quite stone chipped etc when I got them off Trade Me for $20 haha
Got wof today! Fuel pump has become f$@kn loud, and last night... rabbit + crx at open road speeds + late at night = dead rabbit and fucked front lip.
Aah gutted... I hate roadkill... thank your lucky stars it's just a lip and not a clamshell to replace Matt![]()
PROJECT TiTANIUM - One man, three years and the best goddamn Lotus Exige the world has ever seen.
Small update. Bought a '85 AT Si Civic, so thats been taking up car working on time recently. Fixed rust on it today, gave it a general tidy up, swapped wheels, did oil change etc. Pics up soon. Tossing up between converting it to manual and keeping it, or tidying it up to sell on.
Also inherited another Eb3 Honda Civic, one we've owned before, has come back in quite a sad state, but will be receiving some love after the AT is done.
Big plans for the Crx over the next month though, new brakes, new suspension, new motor.![]()

Quick question: Ive had a quick look at the suspension in mine. What stops you dumping it via torsion bars, and loosening the shock mount and sliding the shock further down to increase travel.
Any easy fixes to lowering the back end? ie any shorter factory shocks? springs can be modified but shocks are a pain
Cheer
^ You can do that in the front you have to take the weld out of the brake line brackets and lightly file another relief for the bolt to pass though, but you can get a 25-30mm more travel in the front by lowering the shock in the hub.
First i have seen photos of this pretty mean project, and i think its about to be DOHC'd very soon lol as well as hopefully a few bits from Japan bolted on.
80s Honda's Specialist
Small update, had some Koni Yellow platform adjustables for an EG lying around the workshop, and while I was changing the fucked shocks in the AT I noticed they looked quite similar.... So today had a play round, the Koni's will work with a lower groove, but there would be fuck all travel. I swapped the nuespeed race springs I had lying around in anyway, gave a pretty alright drop considering I have no rear interior in atm.
Before, mean monster truck mean.
Bit better now
Shock comparison... Lol good old Honda lego.
Got the head off the eb today too (Cheers for the help Shane). New headgasket should be in tomorrow (Cheers Damian).

Small update, got rid of the fart cannon off the Crx today, replaced it will an OEM one, sounds a million times better, and now I can hear myself think whilst driving. Got the new Headgasket on the EB, need to order a waterpump tomorrow though.

Massive progress over the weekend. Major fail was forgetting the flash card for my camera, so no pictures as of yet. But fitted this weekend....
- Motor - Browntop ZC from an AT Civic
Lowish kms one from Palmerston North (lol), they had matt blacked everything under the bonnet with a spray can, douche bags. Although luckily the motor appears to have been looked after prior to their ownership as it doesn't smoke, and has strong compression across all 4 cylinders. Its a pretty straight forward swap in the AF chassis. All the mounts had to be swapped, one modified ever so slightly. The hubs and drivershafts were taken from a 1G Integra. Some of the loom plugged straight up, the rest Aaron managed to match up in about 45 minutes flat. Also took the chance to replace the oil cooler pipes on the back of the block, as they were dried out and brittle, and a real bastard to get at once the motor is in the car.
- Clutch - My plan was to replace this along with the pressure plate and release bearing, but there was a pretty new looking exedy one on there, with a pretty good looking pressure plate, so just left it as is, this was a good call as the clutch bites hard, just needs adjustment
- Exhaust - Was planning to fit my Kamikaze 4-1 headers, but that would mean a whole new exhaust, which we weren't able to do over the weekend. So had to go with some mongrel AV Integra carby ones, they are still a cast item, but 4-1 rather than the stock 4-2-1. Used them as they bolted *almost straight up* to the existing system. Which somehow is now further back against the body and is rattling like a cunt. Also de-catted her (Grabbed a bar and beat the precious metals out)
- Gearbox - This was the first point of fail for the build. We were about to drop the motor/box assembly in when we found a hole in the gearbox housing. Suspect that it was from a busted cv, so we had to swap gearboxes. New one had relationship issues with the dustcover, and as Alex insisted scalping wof inspectors isn't the done thing, we had to convince it to get the fuck in there, this was attempted in a number of ways, and after an hour on day one, we gave up and left it for the morning. Got it all in on Saturday morning, dust-shield and engine in about and hour. Cunt dust-shield, I have no love for you. Turns out the new box has a rooted 3rd syncro, so it has to come back out anyway. Also found the shifter linkages from the EW motor are too long, so the gear leaver sits almost horizontal against the center console in 2nd/4th gear. This would be awesome if you were a yeti and wanted to drive from the backseat, but not so good for me.
- Suspension -Scored some super rare Mugen front struts, they made a total world of difference to the car, the old ones were not only crap from the factory, but also completely rooted after almost 25 years of being in there. Didn't get a chance to fit them, but also picked up some aftermarket slightly uprated Munroe's for the rear, ones a bit tired, but I'm positive they are better than standard. This is my temporary setup while I wait to pick up, and gullllp fork out for a rebuild on my Koni Yellow's I scored from Tim (The Lorax). I've also got some bigger 4WD Honda Shuttle torsion bars to go in, but one end needs to be machined first as it mushroomed when they were removed by brute force.
-Brakes-
The near useless EW5 brakes were ditched in favour of some nice 240mm discs from a GSi Integra (Cheers Damian for the hook up), Calipers were replaced with CA3 Accord Si twin piston ones, and bendix brake pads, some "race spec au" dot 4 brake fluid, an EF7 Booster, and 15/16 Master Cylinder. These stop amazing well compared to stock where you measured the stopping distance in km's.
And that's about it for my weekend. Left Auckland at 6:45 am on Friday for New Plymouth. Had the conversion all finished up on Saturday evening around 7-8ish. Drove home today.
Cheers to Aaron (AccordB20A), Alex (3rdGenCivic), Uzie (sp?), Daniel, Keiran and the family for letting us crash there and anyone else who helped along the way.
Will take some pictures tomorrow after wash world. Will also spell check it then, to tired and useless at england at the moment.

Scored a few new cool bits today... Some 2G Crx bucket seats, these are a straight swap onto my existing rails. I'm dropping the drivers one off at the upholsterers tomorrow, as the cover is absolutely shot, luckily i found a 2nd tidy passengers seat, so it will be playing donner for the drivers one. Will chuck up some pictures of before and after. Also contemplating changing my tacho from the electronic one, to an equally rare NZDM Si sedan cluster - It has a similar red line, but goes to 220kph, this should be a straight swap, but I'm undecided if I'm going to do it or not... In other news also scored a much nicer rocker cover, and cambelt cover I plan to put on asap. (Along with an intake arm when I find one)
Matt black FTL
Failbox + blue paint from the boot =(

Saw you at botany today Matt, looking sweet!
RIP CYB693.... Eb Civic that I bought from Colza years ago. Fixed up (Replaced all the suspension, re-wired the central locking and a few other odds and ends, along with getting it a paint job). In this time it had an interior fire, and a wheel fell off along Pakuranga highway.
I then sold it to a guy out in Pukekohoe, who fitted twin dellorto DHLB carbs, had a custom cam ground for it, custom headers, dyno tune, DA6 suspension with kings springs modified to fit, 13" steelies, EN brake booster.
After that it went to some d*#khead who got a pink sticker and then parked it under a bush for 18 months to rot. Sadly after 2 quick paint jobs and 18 months in the elements, cancer has got the best of it... Luckily its still got some good parts to breath life into some other EB's
As I got it from Colza
Engine bay back then.
As I sold it
It its sad current state
Motor almost ready to be dropped out. Check out that rust hole on the firewall
One of the worst spots of cancer
- Plan is to cut the front off it on Friday, save the front panel as a spare, and drop the motor and suspension over the weekend.
In other news, cleaned up my AT Civic and finally took some photos.
In CRX news, the new 2G CRX seats should be ready to pick up tomorrow.
Drivers seat on the left, and new back on the right.
Got sick of the awful half matt black rocker cover, so after about 20mins of trying to clean the black off and save the gold, I just went nuts with the paint stripper. Not sure what colour I'm going to repaint it yet. Maybe Gold as per the factory, or maybe Red, or Blue to match the car. Suggestions welcome

Those wheels on the AT are hotness. Period fucking awesomeness in epic, epic huge bucketfuls.
Old cars. Oh yeah.
^ Cheers, I like em on the AT. But they looked tacky on the CRX

^ Haha yea I noticed too, who ever put the tyres on it fails at life, its got 4 directionals, so its either have the rims round the wrong way or have the tyres miss matching
