back to bare metal is the only way to do it on old school hondas, matt will thank me for the idea when its done
im not a hater im a realist...
why are all the rookies attracted to nzh...
make sure it get a good acid wash and epoxy prime before any bog is done!!! otherwise a pointless task
You think car racing is fun... try going down a river stuck in a plastic tube dodging rocks... even I ask myself why
so from here are you going to hammer and file it or just shit it up again?
Well 7 dremel discs later, windscreen and quarter window frames have been taken back to bare metal, all the rubber and factory body sealer removed, and the first coat of POR15 has gone on in those areas.
New metal in the door, after cutting the chunk out got a chance to POR15 the inside of it too
Not too sure at this stage, epoxy primer is going on first then decision will be made about how to panel it, will try and pop the dents in the doors out. Roof is double skinned so can't get in behind it.

Day 1
Still blue - day 1.
Rust killed door.
Day 6 - 1 step foward 2 steps back.
The metal ready - por15 product had a bazaar reaction to the bare metal of the body. Even after talking to the NZ importers, they hadn't heard of this sort of reaction. The metal turned a purply streaky colour . . . not happy at all with the result, some areas have start to form surface rust after the water wash down. Suddenly lost a lot of faith in por15 products, and will now be sanding all the 'metal ready' off in preparation for regular etch primer.
Did however manage to coat the tail lights and surrounding area in the por15 paint, which seams to harden well. Also rubbed back the plastic panels.

Good shit Matt.
Keep it up - this car is going to look so much better once the blue has gone.
I guess you've decided to keep this CRX for a long time now, what with a garage full of parts and a bare metal respray!
mean your car has the RF guard thats related to my LH guard! haha

Finally managed to get the car into the booth today, got the etch primer on. Also POR15'd the lower half of the doors. Sanded the bonnet back to metal, and did the inside of the passengers door.
^No plan of selling it Tim. And hahahaha Aaron, yea turns out I needed that guard, had to get mine welded up![]()

Well for all those still checking, sorry for the 100000 crappy cellphone photos of an incomplete car
All I can say is I'm bloody stoked to not see any more bare metal. Shell, and all metal panels have been primered. Bloody uni past two weeks has meant I can only make it Wednesday / Fridays all day. And some afternoons.
Panel beating on the shell was delayed until today due to weather condition (Car had to move shops for panel beating).
Shell arrived back today, minimal bog was used, dents were beaten / popped out as best they could be first.
Roller coated the repaired areas ready for sanding
Began stripping sunroof mechanism. Pleased to find very little rust in the trims and frame. On the hunt for suitable replacement seals so as Honda no longer offer them.
Freshly Blasted sunroof trims thanks Shaneready for POR15 treatment
Next step
1) More sanding on the shell
2) Dent repairs on 2x Doors
3) Plastic Panels all prepped (done) now ready for primer.
4) Continue with sunroof restoration.

Doing it right!
Don't listen to what I say, I make shit up as I go.
hey matt, did you use/did painters use flexi additive for the plastics?? (its something that goes into primers and clear coats/2k) I just remember seeing how flimsy those things were on the front of your CRX and wouldnt want the paint to crack

Was that rear bar always there? I like the amounts of win contained in this thread.![]()

Cheers guys
Robbie, the plastic isn't that flexible, guy who did the welding said just treat it as normal.
Andrew, nah had it welded in earlier in the year.
Should hopefully be getting some colour on the chassis tomorrow
