Stripping an EG4

Rate this Entry
Started stripping out the EG for conversion into a track toy, so parts available for sale. Yell out if there's anything anyone wants.
In other news - today I will wash the car, and tomorrow I shall attach a new passenger door. Although I may also pull out the aircon and box it up nicely for sale

An exciting start! (not)

Oh - and it was recommended to me by people in the know, that it's easier to strip the car, cage, paint and then do the engine swap in that order...even though I'm more likely to lose motivation after spending a year prepping a chassis that doesn't even drive. But better than pulling the engine in and out for each stage I guess....soon see.

Ummm - at some point I need to ask around about what needs to stay in to keep it road legal. I don't mind it being a trailer-only car, but if I can get away with keeping it legal on the street I will. Otherwise everything else optional goes - and once it's up and running properly, most heavy pieces will be replaced. So - all trim, PS, AC out now - electric windows, central locking, massive wing mirrors, etc out later.

i see, i built one of these at MIT for a motorsport course i did, turned out well, i have a whole crap load of images if you want them emailed to you? we stripped the car bare, built the cage, then painted it, then did all the fun stuff, engine, suspension etc. de-looming is boring as hell though, so do it on a rainy day or two..

That would be awesome if you could send me some images... I'll PM you my email address.

Also - you wouldn't normally think that washing a car would be blog worthy - however, this is definitely the first time I've had to scrape moss & lichen from the body work as part of a 'wash'

hahaha we had the same story with ours. we bought an eg4 from strong's which was going to be wrecked.. we removed at least a kg of dog hair, crap loads of broken bottles of lion red and a court summons from west auckland.... suprising aye hahaha serious rust and chassis damage meant we made a substantial amount of repairs. and do NOT remove deadening with a chisel. ours had gummed up so bad... dry ice is definatley easier.

Have a look into my build thread. I bought an MIT car that was fuxx0red and went from there. Definately 100% strip it, cage it, then do everything else. No point removing stuff after fitting it to cage it at a later date. Plus it means you can paint the cage/interior easier.

Good to see you have bought an EG to play with. Good luck with the build!
